Mrs. Carrie Green Irving was born on October 8, 1945, in Fort Gaines, Georgia to the parentage of Mrs. Inez Green and the late Deacon Bobby Lee Green. She accepted Christ at an early age as her personal Savior. Carrie attended the Old Corinth Baptist Church until she moved to Miami, Florida. There she joined the First Baptist Church where she served faithfully until her health failed. She was employed with the Miami Jewish Nursing Home for many dedicated years until she retired.

On Friday, July 30, 2021, Carrie departed from her earthly to her heavenly home to be with the Lord. She is preceded in death by her father Deacon Bobby Green, a brother Bobby Green Jr., a sister Mattie Green Jones and a granddaughter Jimyla Irving.

Her life will be cherished by her loving and devoted husband of fifty-six years, Mr. Charles Irving of Houston Texas; four sons: Gerald (Edith) Green and Paul (Erica) Irving of Houston, Texas, Michael (Dee) Irving of Miami, Florida and Charles Irving Jr. of Jacksonville, Florida; one daughter, Lisa Irving of Houston, Texas; her mother, Mrs. Inez Green of Americus, Georgia; four sisters: Hattie (Thomas) Ferguson, Barbara (Donald) Spikes, Shirley Johnson and friend Larry all of Americus, Georgia and Cynthia (Michael) Gilbert of Atlanta, Georgia; five brothers, Pastor Walter (Carolyn) Greene of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, Bishop Willie (JoAnn) Greene of Miami Florida, Pastor Leroy (Sandra) Greene of Americus, Georgia, Pastor Joseph (Beverly) Greene of Kathleen, Georgia and David (Shunda) Green of Americus, Georgia; one aunt, Ms. Jimmie Green of Miami, Florida; twelve grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren; a host of nieces and nephews, devoted cousins and a devoted friend, Pansy.

Brandon Marquis Burney was born December 6, 1990 in Americus, GA to Tomekia (James) Champion and Edward Burney.  He grew up in Americus, GA and was educated in the Sumter County School System.

At an early age he accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior a he joined the Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church in Americus, GA where he served on the Youth Usher Board. Brandon’s hobbies were joking and hanging with his cousins. He loved to eat sweets.

Brandon passed away on July 29, 2021 in Americus, GA. He was preceded in death by his grandparents: Jesse Floyd, James L. Burney Sr., Clarence Johnson, Polly Mae Burney; great grandparents: Mattie Mae Terry; aunt Diana Ann Burney and uncle Bruce Champion.

Lovable memories of Brandon Marquis Burney will forever be cherished in the lives of his siblings; Brianna M. Burney, Kolsen E. Burney, Kirsten E. Burney of Americus, GA. stepmother Kimberly Woods of Americus, GA; stepsister, Lakeshia Champion of Atlanta, GA; his grandparents: Gwendolyn Terry of Americus, GA, Clarence (Sally) Sinkfield of Stone Mountain; aunts and uncles: Crystal Johnson, Twanda Floyd, Deborah (Sam) Jernigan, Yvonne (Eli) Tullis, Michael Terry, Jesse Floyd Jr., Marco Cannon, James Burney Jr., Montrell Burney and Walter Mable. Several other relatives and friends also survive.

Mr. Gene Myers Sr.

The Graveside Service for Mr. Gene Myers, Sr. will be held on Saturday, August 7, 2021 at 11:00 A.M. at New Lebanon Baptist Church Cemetery. Due to COVID-19 concerns, we ask that you MASK UP and continue to practice social distancing for your protection and for the safety of others.

Mr. Gene Myers, Sr. was born October 29, 1956 in Americus, Georgia to the late Sampson and Annie B. Myers. After graduating high school, he served in the United States Army. After being discharged, he worked for the City of Americus. He was a member of the New Lebanon Baptist Church. Gene was united in Holy Matrimony to the late Dianne C. Myers, and to this union three children were born. On July 29, 2021 God looked down and whispered, "Suffer no more my child, come and rest". He was preceded in death by two brothers and a sister.

He leaves to cherish his memories and celebrate his life, a devoted love and companion of thirty plus years,  Ms. Ella Harvey; a daughter, Lakeshia Myers; two sons: Gene (Tiffany) Myers, Jr. and Gregory Myers all of Americus, Georgia; one sister, Annie Doris (Elmer) Woodard of Newport News, Virginia; two brothers-in-law, R. L. Loud and Charles (Rosie) Cooper; four sisters-in-law, Van Freeman of Albany, Georgia, Jacqueline Hall, Sharon Cooper and Lisa (Tyrone) Thompson; five aunts: Ada Pearl Scovil of Clayton, Alabama, Mary Jane Johnson of Eufaula, Alabama, Clevie Dell Davis and Lottie McFolley both of Georgetown, Georgia and May Frances Moore of Warner Robins, Georgia; one uncle, Michael Freeman of Georgetown, Georgia; six grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Because of Gene and Ella's love, they became an extended family including sons and daughters: Stella Jackson, Diane Willis (Johnny Willis), Joe Jackson (Sharon), Tracy Manning, and Calvin Harvey (Gloria) all of Americus, Georgia; a special devoted grandson, Trikel Davis; a devoted nephew, Roderick Freeman; devoted caregivers: Valerie Flowers, Gloria Brown and Pierre Perkins; twenty-five grandchildren, twenty-three great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. A host of other loving relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral Services for Mr. Joseph Paschal of Americus, Georgia will be held on Wednesday, August 4, 2021, at 12:00 Noon at Andersonville National Cemetery, Andersonville, Georgia.  Due to COVID-19 concerns, we ask that you please MASK UP and continue to practice social distancing for your protection and for the safety of others. 

Joseph Paschal, affectionately known as “Red” to many of his friends and co-workers, was born on July 11, 1958 in Americus, Georgia to the late Otis and Annie Paschal.  At an early age he joined Old Shady Grove Baptist Church.  Joe was educated in the public schools of Sumter County and graduated from Sumter County High School. He attended Tuskegee Institute, where he received his degree in Math & Science. He served in the United States Air Force from 1982-1987 as a 1st Lieutenant and a Communications Systems Officer.

Joe was a very private person. His hobbies consisted of staying home, buying scratch off tickets, wagering on sports, talking to his sisters and enjoying life as he pleased. He passed from labor to reward on July 28, 2021 at his residence. He was preceded in death by a brother, Otis Paschal, Jr.  

Memories of Joe will be cherished by his son, Ari Rmand Paschal of Severn, Maryland; one brother, Milton Paschal of Montezuma, Georgia; four sisters: Florence Royal (Bobby), Annie R. Pinder both of Miami. Florida, Christine Phillips of Louisville, Kentucky and Shirley Jones of Americus, Georgia; a devoted aunt, Eula Breedlove of Americus, Georgia; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Mr. Alan Terrell Coleman, Sr.

Alan Terrell Coleman Sr., made his debut into this world on a bright sunshiny Tuesday, May 19, 1970 at 2:30 pm, to the parentage of Robert and Lodenia Waymon Coleman. He was baptized as a child by the late Presiding Elder Elijah Smith at Allen Chapel AME Church in Americus, GA.

In 1991 Alan married the love of his life Kam Shenell Williams. They later moved to Albany, GA, then to Macon where he trained as an amateur boxer and later became a Golden Glove Champion in 1996. However, the idea of acting and pursuing a career in commercials and films kept tugging at his heart. To further his acting career, in 2004 he moved his family to Atlanta, GA. He has played roles in the following movies: Good Behavior, Stan Against Evil, Atlanta, MacGyver, P-Valley, Prison Break, Queen Sugar and more. Alan had the opportunity to work with East Coast Talent in Rome, GA. His last role was as sheriff in Women of the Movement “The Emmitt Till Story” to be released in 2022.

In addition to his parents, Reverends Robert and Lodenia Coleman; wife Kam Shenell Coleman; his daughters: Alana (David) Moseley, Tangie (Aleem) Olayiwola and Corinne (Joel Poinsette) Coleman; his sons: Alan Terrell Coleman Jr. (AJ) and Quantavious Fletcher, all of Atlanta, GA; mother-in-law, Diane Williams, Americus, GA and father-in-law, Willie Allen, Atlanta, GA; one sister, Tiffany (Mario) Mitchell; one brother, Robert (Cherita) Coleman, II; seven grandchildren: granddaughters: Kymora, Kyleah, and Kyniah Barnes, Kyriel Olayiwola, and grandsons: Joel, Jace, and Jalen Poinsette; sisters-in-law: Aneika Williams and Gwendolyn Williams, Americus, GA, and Rosetta Allen of Atlanta, GA; 12 brothers-in-law including a special brother in law Johnny Frank Williams. Several other relatives include nieces, nephews, cousins, special family friend Linda Schneider, and acting agent Barbara Garvey.

Mr. Kenneth "KC" Jerome Jones

The Graveside Service for Mr. Kenneth Jerome Jones of Americus, Georgia will be held on Saturday, July 31, 2021 at 11:00 A.M. at Eastview Cemetery with Rev. James E. Laster officiating. Mr. Kenneth Jones, known by many as “KC,” was born in Sumter County, Georgia on October 8, 1960 to the late Mr. Johnny Jones and the late Mrs. Savannah Bell Jones.  In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by two siblings, Margaret Styles Leigh and Johnny Jones, Jr.

At an early age, Kenneth joined St. Paul Baptist Church, Vienna Highway, Sumter County.  Kenneth received his education in the public schools of Sumter County and was employed with Woodgrain Millwork/Designs of Americus and self- employed for many years.  A lover of the outdoors, Kenneth enjoyed basketball, fishing, gardening, and planting/growing flowers. “KC” passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday, July 25, 2021.

He will be missed by his loving family which includes two sisters: Ms. Minnie Dean Caple, Brooklyn, New York and Mrs. Rosetta (James E.) Laster, Virginia Beach, VA; beloved nieces: Diane Jones and Melissa Leigh; much-loved nephew, Westlow Jerome Caple, Jr.; a special cousin, Leroy Henderson; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Dr. Louise Murray

Interment Service for Dr. Louise Scott Murray will be held on Monday July 19, 2021 at 1:00 at Eastview Cemetery. Public viewing can be done at our walkup window on Sunday from 12:00 until 7:30 and on Monday from 9:00 to 12:00.

Dr. Louise Scott Murray was born in Americus, Georgia on February 14,1936 to the parents of Clifford and Laura Lee Bell Scott Ragans. Dr. Murray became a Florida resident until she was called home to be with Jesus on July 7, 2021.

She attended Staley High in Americus, Georgia. After coming to Florida, she attended Lindsey Hopkins and graduated with an LPN medical certificate, she then furthered her education in theology and graduated with a Doctorate in Theology. She  later received a Bachelor’s in Religious Arts in Biblical Studies, Master’s of Religious Art in Christian Counseling and a Dr. of Ministry, all of which were from Jacksonville’s Theological Seminary. During her lifetime, she served as a nurse for 36 years. She started at Parkway General, which is presently known as Jackson North Hospital. During her tenure there she was recognized by the Chief of Medicine and promoted to the Pharmacy Department. Some years later, Dr. Murray was promoted to Head Nurse at Miami Heart Institute in Miami Beach, Florida.

Dr. Murray’s heart was in singing, she was a “song bird”. She sang solos, sang in choirs and duets. She was also a recording artist. She joined the Soul Saving Station located in Opa-Locka, Florida in 1971 until she retired in 2014, because of failing health.

She loved to preach to all who would lend an ear. She especially loved to visit the sick and the shut in and was heavily involved in community service by taking bread and baked goods to those in need.

Her close-knit family included her husband, Earnest Murray, who preceded her in death. Her children Willie Prince Jr., Lester Prince, Ervin Prince, John Wesley Prince, who preceded her in death, and Emory Prince. Her sister, Pastor Eddie Mae Hood; sister-in-law Cynthia Murray; brothers-in-law, Tom Murray and James Trimble Sr.; brothers and sisters preceding her in death are Ada Mann, Amos Ragans, Georgia Lee Ragans, Mary Alice Ragans, Clifford Ragans Junior, Ellen Pringle, Ludy Monts, and Florence James; and a host of grands, great-grands, nieces and nephews and godchildren

Ms. Mary Ellen Loftly Covington, daughter of the late Mollie Kaigler Loftly and L. B. Loftly, Sr. was born on April 23, 1942, in Montezuma, Georgia. She grew up in Montezuma and attended the historic Flint River Farms School. As a young adult, she was employed at Southern Frozen Foods. Later she moved to Orlando, Florida then to Madison, Florida and worked various jobs before relocating to her hometown of Montezuma to be with family and friends.

Mary Ellen departed this life on Wednesday, July 14, 2021 at Phoebe Sumter Hospital in Americus, Georgia. She was preceded in death by her parents, Mollie Kaigler Loftly and L.B. Loftly; her son, Willie C. Loftly; and her brothers: Benjamin Loftly, L.B. Loftly, Jr. and Edward Loftly.

Precious memories will always remain with her loving family which includes her grandson, Ke'Andre Jarod Springer; her sisters: Burnell Story and Lounell Rackley (Leonard) of Montezuma, Georgia; her brother: Boisey Loftly (Bessie) of Oglethorpe, Georgia; a devoted friend, A.W. Joiner of Montezuma, Georgia; a host of nieces, nephews, other loving relatives and friends.

Ms. Lillie Ruth Pace

The Graveside Service for Miss Lillie Ruth Pace of Americus, Georgia will be held on Thursday, July 15, 2021, at 11:00 A.M. at Staley Memorial Gardens. For your protection and the safety of others, please mask up and continue to practice social distancing.

Miss Lillie Ruth Pace was born on November 18, 1933, in Americus, Georgia to the late John Henry Pace and the late Fannie Laster Burkes. She was educated in the public schools of Americus, Georgia and graduated in 1952 from Staley High School. She was a member of Campbell Chapel African Methodist Episcopal (AME) Church since the age of fourteen, where she held many roles and never declined to serve in any capacity.  She was committed to praising God as she sang in the Adult Choir and fulfilled her duties as a stewardess, trustee, and missionary worker. She continued to read and study the Bible even during her sickness and attend Bible study and prayer service.  Miss Pace retired from Davidson Manufacturing Company after 20 years of service.   

Miss Lillie Ruth Pace departed this life on July 11, 2021. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her brother, Willie Robert Pace and her great grandson, Jayden Terrence Johnson.

Left to cherish her memory are four daughters and two sons: Sergeant Major (Ret) Rosa M. Pace of Fayetteville, Georgia, Ms. Bonnie Williams of Tacoma, Washington, Ms. Fannie E. Anthony and Ms. Lisa D. Pace of Americus, Georgia, Sergeant First Class (Ret) Ronald S. Pace of Seattle, Washington and Mr. Dennis Pace (Tamyra) of Decatur, Georgia; ten grandchildren: Chief Warrant Officer Four (Ret) Michael Anthony (Lakeya) of Killeen, Texas, Ms. India Pace of Decatur, Georgia,  Mr. Eric S. Anthony of Atlanta, Georgia, Mr. Kofi Goseer of Tacoma, Washington,  Mrs. Elise Williams (Tye Isles) of San Francisco, California, Mr. Kelvin Pace (Yvette) of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Mr. Ron Pace (Shanna) of Stafford, Virginia, Mr. Marcus Pace (Nereyda) of Seattle, Washington,  Dr. Fanesia Johnson (David) of Americus, Georgia, and Mr. Jamaal Anthony (Christina) of Americus, Georgia; twenty-two great grandchildren and one great great grandchild; a host of cousins, other relatives, and God children, Mr. Robert Williams,  Ms. Vivian Patterson, and Ms. Debra Brinson all of Americus, Georgia.
