Funeral services for Mr. Johnny L. Young of Americus, Georgia were held on Saturday, June 16, 2012 at 2:00 P.M at Scott’s Mater C.M.E. Church with Elder James H. Jackson officiating. Burial followed at the Hill Cemetery.

Mr. Johnny L. Young, known to all who knew him as “Buck” was born in Sumter County on August 18, 1960, to Geneva Young and the late James Young. As a child he liked to play jokes on everyone. He was a kind hearted person anything that he could do to help you he’d do it. He was a very knowledgeable person, knowing a little about everything. As a child he joined Scotts Mater C.M.E. Church but like most he strayed away from the church. But after some years of being away from us he made up his mind to make a change in his life, he came back to the church. Two brothers and an aunt preceded him in death, Charlie Hall, Robert Hall, Louise McDonald. On June 10, 2012, the day set aside for him to be absent with us but present with the Lord, Johnny quietly slipped away from us.

He will be missed by his mother Geneva Young; his fiance’ Joanne Dowdell; brothers: John (Lilly) Hall, Margate, FL, James Young, Jr., Americus, and Willie (Isabel) Lucas, San Jose, California; sister, Patricia Edden (Jerome Jackson), Americus; sister-in-law, Barbara J. Hall, Ft. Lauderdale, FL; a half sister, Gloria Leverette, Americus; one aunt, Hazel Freddrick, Americus; a great uncle, Mr. George King, of Americus, whom he cherished very much; a great aunt, Mrs. Claudette Hatten, Vienna, Georgia. Buck was well known and well liked by all who knew him, but as life would have it, there were those few that he called “my good friends” Dennis and Tracy Carter: “my relatives that went above and beyond” Tara Leverettte and Rachel who came just so that her grandmother would not be alone as she waited for news of her youngest son’s fate. A host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives also survive
