Mr. Darren Andrew James of Montezuma, Georgia passed away on Saturday, August 27, 2016 at Houston Medical Center in Warner Robins, Georgia.  Born in Detroit, Michigan on July 9, 1962, he was the son of Mrs. Bertha J. James and the late Mr. Morris James, Sr. Graveside services will be held Tuesday, August 30, 2016 at 12 noon at New Hope Cemetery in Montezuma, Georgia.

Memorial services for Ms. Carolyn Ann Terry of Americus, Georgia will be held on Saturday, August 27, 2016 at 11:00 A.M. in the Chapel of West’s Mortuary.

Ms. Carolyn Ann Terry was born in Sumter County, Georgia on December 29, 1953 to the parentage of Mrs. Lena Mae Hunt and the late Mr. Charlie Terry, Jr.  She was preceded in death by her grandparents: Annie and Charlie Terry, Sr. and Mary and Willie Jerkins; four uncles: Rev. E.L. Clark, Randolph Terry, Walter Terry and Johnny Terry.
 
She joined the Union Tabernacle Baptist Church. She received her education in the public schools of Sumter County. Carolyn died peacefully on Monday, August 22, 2016 at the Pinehill Nursing Center in Byromville, Georgia.

She leaves to cherish her memories her mother, Lena Mae Hunt of Americus, GA; five sisters: Mary (Eddie) Quwenty, Mary Christmas both of Americus, GA, Taresa (Ronald) Sims, Wendy Terry, and Frankie (Mike) Anderson of Tampa, Florida; four brothers: Larry (Karen) Terry of Albany, GA, David Hunt of Baton Rouge, LA, Edward (Robie) Hunt of Dublin, GA and Rev. Charlie (Capathia) Sampson of Plant City, FL; six aunts: Linda (David) Vickers of Miramar, FL, Evelyn Terry and Gladys Clark both of Americus, GA, Elnora Terry of Miami, FL, Barbara Terry of Atlanta, GA and a devoted aunt, Shirley Terry-Lundy of Americus, GA; two uncles: Simmel Terry of Americus, GA and David Vickers of Miramar, FL; a host of nieces and nephews including two devoted nieces: Clarissa Lewis of Fayetteville, GA and Malencia Lewis of Americus, GA; a devoted friend, Mikita Milner; a host of other loving relatives and friends.

Funeral services for Mr. James Douglas Smith will be held on Saturday, August 6, 2016 at 2:30 P.M. at the Friendship Baptist Church with Bishop Melvin McCluster officiating.

Mr. James Douglas Smith of New Brighton, Pennsylvania passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday morning August 2, 2016 in Americus, Georgia. James was affectionately known as “Fiddler” by his family and friends in New Brighton and Beaver County, Pennsylvania and known and as “Smity” by his family and friends in Andersonville and Americus, Georgia.

James was born on October 21, 1951 in Andersonville, GA to the late Marion and Aurila Smith who both preceded him in death. James attended and graduated from the Sumter County School System and moved to Pennsylvania sometime shortly thereafter. He was employed and retired as a sanitation worker with the Valley Refuse for approximately twenty-five years of service.

James leaves to cherish his memory a loving daughter Leah (Neil) Smith, two adorable grandchildren Isaiah Smith and Elijah Smith all of Beaver County, Pennsylvania; one brother Marion (Bertha) Smith Americus, Georgia; aunts: Etta Mae McDonald, Margaret Easton, and Georgia Childs all of Pennsylvania; several devoted cousins: Donald Wade, New Brighton, PA and Jessie Smith, Americus, GA and other relatives and friends of Beaver County, PA and Sumter County, GA. Other relatives that have preceded James in death include his uncle Alton Childs, Sr., aunt Geneva Childs Smith, and a devoted cousin Samuel Smith.

Funeral services for Mr. Wilbert G. Gilford will be held on Saturday, August 6, 2016 at 12:00 Noon at Kingdom of Heaven Ministries with Pastor Courtney Moore officiating. Burial will follow at the Lebanon Cemetery in Plains, GA

Mr. Wilbert Gean Gilford was born in Sumter County Georgia on March 24, 1957 to the parentage of the late Mr. Henry Gilford and Mrs. Autry Gilford.  He joined the St. John A.M.E church at a early age.  Later in life he received Christ and joined Kingdom of Heaven Ministry.  He received his education in Sumter County School System.  He was preceded in death by four brothers.

He leaves to cherish his memories wife Patricia Ann Gilford, two sons: Wilbert Gean Gilford of Americus, GA and Koshama Richardson of St. Augustine, FL; a daughter, Natavia (Broderick) Hawkins of Atlanta, GA; three brothers: Thomas (Ruth) Gilford of Statesville, NC, Freddie Gilford of Rivera Beach, FL. And Roy (Dolly) Lockett of Pierce, FL; five sisters: Jacqueline (Alton) Green of Cuthbert, GA, Eliion Francis, Mary Morgan of Detroit, MI, Joann Gilford of Americus, GA and Leola Brown of Rivera Beach, FL; six grandchildren, six great grandchildren; one aunt, Ms. Janie Flowers of Delray Beach, FL and a host of nieces and nephews

Mrs. Ethel Seay

Funeral services for Mrs. Ethel Seay of Americus, Georgia will be held on Tuesday, August 9, 2016 at 11:00 A.M. at the Big Bethel Baptist Church with Rev. Calvin Rollins officiating. Burial will follow at the Eastview Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday from 6 to 7 P.M.

Mrs. Ethel Seay was born to the parentage of the late Ethel Davis and the late Henry Thrasher in Louisville, Kentucky, and was raised by her Aunt Laura Davis in Americus after the death of her mother.

She received her early education at McCoy Hill School in Americus, Georgia. She also joined Big Bethel Baptist Church at the age of 9 where her membership remains for over 80 years. As one of the oldest members of Big Bethel Baptist Church she has served the church in various capacities including President of the Senior Choir, Deaconess, Missionary Board, Women's Progressive Club and other duties within the church. She was a lifelong member of the NAACP and a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post 558 as well as a civil rights activists. One of her fondest memories is attending the funeral of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. where she met the late Coretta Scott King. She enjoyed gardening, traveling and spending time with her family. She could be considered a local historian because of her vast knowledge of many of the families in and around Americus.

As a young mother of two boys (James L. and Carl Lamar), Ethel moved to Springfield and Holyoke, Massachusetts to work and support her two children. She later moved back to Americus where she met and married her husband, the late veteran Fred Seay, on July 26, 1947. To this union four children were born. She is survived by her loving sister, Harriet Gass Broughton, Tyler, TX, (two brothers who preceded her in death; Charles "Zutie" Key and Marvin H. Davis). She is survived by her six children; James (Georgia) Lamar, Ft. Pierce, FL, Carl Lamar and Freddie Seay, Rochester, NY, Deacon Henry C. Seay, Americus, GA, w. Frank Seay, Douglasville, GA, and her devoted daughter and caretaker, Maxine (Kenneth) O'Neal, Jonesboro, GA. Nine grandchildren; Sidney (Sherri) Lamar, Mitchellville, MD, Jewel L. Moultrie, Darrow Seay, Brina (Demetrius) Seay Mitchell, Daniel (Yamara) Demos, all of Rochester, NY, Monisha (Brian)Volley, Jessie D. Seay, all of Americus, GA, Durrell Seay, Atlanta, GA, P03 Courtney Seay, Naples, Italy and Kendall R. O'Neal, Jonesboro, GA, eleven great-grandchildren, six nieces and nephews; Eric Broughton, Laura Fry, Janice Mass, Ernest Broughton, Jr., Tyler, TX, Douglas Broughton and Beverly Butler, Houston, TX and other relatives and friends also survive.
