Graveside services for Charles William Fields, Sr. will be held on Thursday, July 21, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. at New Hope Baptist Church Cemetery with Evangelist Barbara Law officiating.

Mr. Charles William Fields, Sr., better known as C Fields or CW Fields, was born July 21, 1935 in Montezuma, Georgia to the late Sam and Lena Cromer Fields. He was the second youngest of twelve siblings, eight preceded him in death: Lillie, Lena Mae, Rosa Mae, Gladys, Lawrence, RJ, Clarence and Sammie Lee. He was also preceded in death by a son, Charles.

C.W. attended St. Benedict Church in Highland Park, Michigan for several years. He had many passions including traveling and working as a mechanic. For many years he owned and operated M&D Automotive Shop in Highland Park, Michigan. He showed a special interest in classic cars. He looked forward to the Woodward Dream Cruise in August of every year, where he would drive his Grand National or ’76 Cadillac, his “Banana Boat”. Some years he preferred to just watch the cruise with his children. Over the years he shared his love for cars with anyone who would listen. While sons Michael and Marcus were young, he shared his knowledge as a mechanic with them. Over the years, they have passed much of this knowledge on to younger brothers Joseph and Jean-Paul. He had a love for music, particularly Gospel and Blues. He listened to music faithfully and talked about how God blessed him to be free. If you knew him, you know he would often use the phrase, “It’s all about the Supreme Being”.

Mr. Fields passed away on June 25, 2016 in Detroit, Michigan. Left to cherish his memories are his children: Gloria (Richard) Story, Michael (Sarah) Fields, Denise Fields, Jennifer (David) Bennett, Marcus Fields, Chaune Fields, Nicolette Fields, Lena (Willie) Houston, Charli Fields, Joseph Fields, and Jean-Paul Fields; siblings: Roosevelt (Betty) Fields, Bernice Fields and Hilda McKenzie; twenty-two grandchildren, fifteen great grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
