Mr. Lorenzo Thornton was born on June 28, 1958, to Mrs. Annie Mae Smith Thornton and Mr. James C. Thornton. He was educated in the Macon County School System and was a member of the class of 1977 at D.F. Douglass High School. “Ren”, as he was affectionately called, loved life and enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. With a loving family as his foundation, he found his strength in the Lord. He loved the Lord and his faith was strong.
Ren was a devoted sports fan, and his favorite team was the Atlanta Falcons. He cheered for various football teams, but he was a true Atlanta Falcons fan. Most importantly, Ren was a cherished father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend.
On Thursday, April 3, 2025, God embraced Ren in His arms and enfolded him in His love. Though he is no longer physically with us, his legacy lives on in his family and friends, and in the countless lives he touched with his laughter, his kindness, and his loving personality. He was preceded in death by his loving parents: Annie Mae Smith Thornton and James C. Thornton, and three loving siblings: James Thornton, John Thornton, and Pamela Melvin.
Lorenzo leaves behind a loving family which includes his children: Lorenzo Thornton Jr. (Desirae), Kebresha Sanders (Montague), Loretta Sanders, and Tyrus Sanders; grandchildren: Tyrianna Sanders, Tytiuana Cotton, Zamario Thornton, Quadarrius Sanders, ZaKiya Thornton, Adrionna Sanders, Kimora Cochran, Caleb Thornton, Michael Sanders, and Loyal Thornton; bonus grandchildren: DeMaiyan and DeMonee Johnson; great-grandson, Zayne Crumbly; his siblings: Rickey Thornton (Jena), Cheryl Porter (James), Zona Riley (James), Florence Barnes (David), and Michael Tookes; his aunts and uncles: Ola Mae Sparks, Louise Lee, Willie James Larry, and Willie Tom Flowers; special friend, Glenda Sanders; devoted friend, Jennika Harris; a loving and caring devoted nephew, Devontay Thornton; a host of nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.
