Funeral services for Mr. George E. Angry of Americus, GA. will be held on Wednesday April 5, 2017 at 11:00 A.M. at Zion Hope Baptist Church with Rev. George F. Monts officiating.

Mr. George Angry affectionately known as “Chicken George” was born May 19, 1959 in Dawson GA. to the late Charlie and Ruth Angry. He was educated in the Sumter County School System. George worked for the City of Americus for 20 years and West Mortuary for 8 years.  He enjoyed being under the “Big Tree” hanging with his buddies. He also loved to fish and dance.  George was loved by many but on Wednesday 29, 2017, God decided he needed him more. He passed peacefully at home surrounded his lovely family. He was preceded in death by two brothers: Charlie Angry Jr. and Willie C. Angry.

He leaves to mourn his passing three brothers: Mr. Johnny Angry, Mr. Sanford Angry (Dorothy) both of Americus, GA and Mr. Jessie (Elaine) Angry of Smithville, GA; three sisters: Mrs. Ruth (Henry) Perry, Ms. Thelma Brantley and Ms. Imogene Angry all of Americus, GA; one uncle, Mr. William Green of Americus, GA; six Aunts: Ms. Mary Green, Ms. Lillie Mae Merritt of Americus, GA, Ms. Callie Mae Williams of Sumter City, Ms. Mary Lynn Rumph of Boynton Beach, FL. Ms. Burtha Mae Evans and Ms. Catherine Green both of Miami, FL; 14 nephews and 10 nieces. A host of great nieces, great nephews, 1 great great nephew, cousins, other relatives and friends also survive. 8 devoted friends; Freddy Bishop, Johnny B. Thomas, Tina, Phillip Reynolds, Johnny Lyles, Chester Hayes, Reginald Mathis and Alma Jackson.

Funeral services for Ms. Alma White of Americus, Georgia will be held on Thursday, March 30, 2017 at 11:00 A.M. at Allen Chapel A.M.E. Church with Pastor Curtis Frazier officiating. Burial will follow at the Eastview Cemetery.

 

Ms. Alma White, affectionately known as “Dunnie” to those who loved her, was born May 27, 1934 to the late Charles and Tassie Lee White.  At an early age she joined Friendship Baptist Church in DeSoto, GA.  She lived a great portion of her adult life in Detroit Michigan surrounded by family.  She later moved to Americus, GA to become a faithful caregiver for her oldest sister whom she preceded in death.  She took care of Ozella until her own health failed.  She was a quiet peaceful spirit with a big heart for her family.  On March 27, 2017 God needed an Angel and he called her home.  She was preceded in death by two brothers, Mr. Virgil White and Mr. Curtis White; one sister, Mrs. Margaret (Johnny) Mercer.

 

She leaves to mourn her passing two sisters, Ms. Ozella (Belle) White and Mrs. Leila Mae White Josey, Americus, GA; devoted nieces, Ms. Deborah Josey Burks, Byron, GA, Mrs. Alice (Eddie) Mercer, and Mrs. Brenda (Allison) Harris, Americus, GA; devoted nephews, Mr. Clarence Josey III, Mr. Ronald Josey, Mr. Ernest Josey, Mr. Johnny Josey, Mr. Johnny Mercer, Jr., Mr. Darryl Mercer, and Mr. Michael Mercer; devoted cousins whom she loved like sisters, Ms. Leila-Clifford Meadows, Cusseta, GA, Ms. Estella Meadows Campbell, Detroit Michigan and Ms. Ozella (Maximo) Cobb, Columbus, GA; great nieces: Mrs. Amber (Tavares) Caldwell, Ms. Leila-Chassity Jones, Ms. Rayven Josey Burks; Ms. LaToya Raven Williams, Ms. Alyson Janee Harris; Ms. Marquita Clark; Ms. Erica Mercer; Ms. Michala Mercer; great nephews: Mr. Christopher Raven, Mr. Arthur Raven, Mr. Eddie Mercer, Jr., Mr. Darrell Mercer, Jr., Mr. Nicholas Mercer and Mr. Johnny Mercer III; a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins

Mrs. Ester Mae Turner passed away Saturday, March 25, 2017 at the Pinehill Nursing Center in Byromville Georgia. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 1, 2017 at 1:00 P.M. at Mt Olive Baptist Church in Byromville, Georgia with Rev. Alvin Turner officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

 

Ester Mae Turner was born February 15, 1937 in Byromville Georgia to the late Miss Pauline Singleton. She was married to Mr. Lonnie C. Turner who preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her son Lonnie B. Turner.

 

She will be lovingly remembered by her daughter Willene Loman (Shelton) of Montezuma, Georgia; three grandsons: Lonnie Turner (Sandra) of Tacoma, Washington, Jarvis Turner (Michelle) of Atlanta, Georgia and Stoney Turner of Montezuma, Georgia; six great grandchildren; five great great grandchildren; one aunt, Annie C. Singleton of Tampa, Florida; one sister-in-law, Catherine Turner of Byromville, Georgia; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends also survive.

Funeral services for Mr. Lynn Edward Bowens of Americus, Georgia will be Friday, March 31, 2017 at 1:00 P.M. at the Eastview Seventh Day Adventist Church with Pastor Alex Todd officiating. Burial will follow at the Eastview Cemetery.

Mr. Lynn Edward Bowens was born on October 27, 1960 in Americus, Georgia to the late Mary Bowens and the late Eli Stewart. He was employed for several years with the Americus Housing Authority. Mr. Bowens died on Friday, March 24, 2017 at Phoebe-Sumter Medical Center.

Left to cherish his memories are his son Anthony Lawson; two sisters: Queen Bowens and fiancée Jerryel Battle and Tracey Stewart; his grandmother, Mattie Bowens of Hartford, CT; eight aunts: Rosa (Horace) Smith of Bainbridge, GA, Ethel (Joe) Calloway, Caroline (Lawrence) Ruffin all of Americus, GA, Faye Bowens and Gaye (Prince) Parker all of Hartford, CT, Ruby Bush of Deerfield, FL, Queen Thurston of Deerfield, FL and Geraldine Livingston of North, SC; seven uncles: Paul (Joyce) West, Eddie (Shirley) West and McArthur (Jackie) West all of Hartford, CT, Johnny West of Virginia, Charles Stewart of Fort Lauderdale, FL, James Stewart of Pompano, FL and Melvin Burton of Nottingham way, NJ; two God-sisters: Ida Lampkins and Wanda Nelson both of Americus, GA; four grandchildren: Yaley Seay, Anthony Seay, Yikea Seay and Aaryion Seay; several other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services for Mr. Alvin Clark Baisden will be held on Tuesday, March 28, 2017 at 2:00 in the Chapel of West’s Mortuary in Americus, Georgia with Rev. George F. Monts officiating. Burial will follow at Eastview Cemetery.

Mr. Alvin Clark Baisden was born on January 11, 1950 in Schley County, Georgia to the late Tommie Lou Baisden and the late Lester Clark. Alvin was raised on a farm by his late grand-parents, Lou Wence and Tommie Baisden. He was educated at John Lewis High School in Schley County. After high school, he moved to Atlanta to seek work where he held several jobs, but cooking seemed to be his favorite.

In 1971 he married Beverly Jean Aldridge, from that union one child was born; Felicia Baisden.

When his mother became ill he moved back home to help with her care until her death. While here he worked at the Windsor Hotel before moving back to Atlanta and later returning to the Americus area. Mr. Baisden died on Wednesday, March 22, 2017 at the Magnolia Manor. He was also preceded him in death by his other grandparents, Lean Clark and Mrs. Blaney Clark; a younger brother, Johnnie Ray Adams, and a step father, Frank Payne.

He leaves to cherish his memory his daughter and son-in-law, Felicia Franks and Tony Franks of Atlanta, GA; two uncles: Eddie Baisden (Louise) of Ellaville, GA. and L. B. Baisden of Ellaville, GA; one aunt, Ozzie Bell Queens (WT Owens) of Montgomery, AL; dedicated neighbors; Rosa Mae Clemons and B. Kleckley who was dedicated and assisted in his care.

Funeral services for Korneal Markeas Barker age 5, will be held on Saturday, March 25, 2017 at 11:00 A.M. at the Friendship Baptist Church where Bishop Melvin McCluster is pastor. Overseer Benny Clark will serve as eulogist.  Burial will follow in Babyland at Eastview Cemetery.

Korneal Markeas Barker affectionately known as "Kash" was born on March 22, 2011 in Sumter County, Georgia to Keandra Lusane (Christopher) and Cornelius Barker Sr. He was educated in the Sumter and Bibb County School Systems. Kash graduated from Pre-K at Sandy’s Sandbox and was a kindergarten student at Riley Elementary School.

Kash's life would seem short to many, but those who were touched by him understood that the quality of existence far exceeds the quantity of time in which one lives. His favorite cartoons were Peppa Pig and Blaze and the Monster Machine. He enjoyed riding his dirt bike, playing basketball and surfing the internet on an IPhone. His final days were spent surrounded by family and friends that Kash had touched in some small way throughout his short, yet very memorable life. Korneal was granted his angel wings on March 18, 2017. He was preceded in death by his brother Cornelius Barker Jr., grandfather, Henry Lusane, Jr. and great grandmothers: Doris Lusane and Linda Clemons.

Korneal will be cherished and lovingly remembered by his parents: Keandra Lusane (Christopher) and Cornelius Barker, Sr.; siblings: Arnealia Barker, NyAsiah Fuller, and Kornelius Barker; grandparents:  Angelia Lusane-Cox (Johnny), Teresa Barker and Carlton Mable; great grandparents: Benny Clark (Minnie), Henry Lusane Sr., Gail Barker, Willie Barker (Sylvia), Minnie McDonald and Johnny Mable (Patricia); great great grandparents: Rosa Mae Clemons and Blanche Tucker; aunts and uncles: Octavia Lusane-Williams (Kahraccus), Naporsha Beason, Monique Garry, Marquesha Barker, Henry Lusane III (Jasmine), Johnn'Angelia Cox, Braylan Wilkerson, Harmony Milledge, Za'Riyah Mitchell and Imari Mable; a devoted cousin Kaden Williams; a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services for Mr. Eugene Hicks of Americus, Georgia will be held on Saturday, March 18, 2017 at 11:00 A.M. at United Holiness Church with Rev. Kenneth Gouch.

Mr. Eugene Hicks “Joe Hicks” was born in Sumter County, GA on June 12, 1957 to the late Mrs. Mary Bertha Williams and the late Mr. Thomas Williams. He received his education in the public school system in Americus, GA. He was a member of the Old Antioch Baptist Church. For many years he was self-employed as a painter. He enjoyed playing the bass guitar, singing and spending time with his family. Eugene departed his life on Saturday, March 11, 2017 in Warner Robin, Georgia. He was preceded in death by one sister, Tahesha Williams and one brother David Williams.

Funeral services for Mr. Nathaniel Odom of Montezuma, Georgia will be held on Saturday, March 11, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at New Hope Baptist Church in Montezuma, Georgia with Pastor Allen Waters officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.

Mr. Nathaniel Bernard Odom, a native of Macon County, Montezuma, Georgia, the son of the late Mr. Timothy Odom, Sr. and Mrs. Alberta Nelson Odom, was born May 6, 1954 and died Wednesday, March 8, 2017.

Mr. Odom attended the public schools of Macon County and graduated from D.F. Douglass High School and later, he enlisted in the United States Army and served his country honorably. Nathaniel was a jack of all trades. He had multiple skills which included meat cutting, construction work and farming. In his last days, he worked at Publix Supermarket and subsequently became the veggie man of Macon County. His favorite pastime was fishing.

At an early age, Nathaniel professed his faith in Jesus Christ and joined the New Hope Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend K.T. Hayes.

His beautiful life will forever be cherished in the lives of his mother, Mrs. Alberta N. Odom of Montezuma, Georgia; his children: Edcardo Odom of King of Prussia, Pennsylvania, Jillian Odom (Kenyada) Neal of Locust Grove, Georgia, Simone Laureon Odom, Tammie Joiner, Sabrina Clark of Montezuma, Georgia and Steven Joiner of Auburn, Alabama; grandchildren: Gabrielle Odom, Timothy Odom, Kyle Neal, Kenley Neal, Kash Neal, Torena Fulks, Rufus Felton, William Felton III and Shanaya Felton; siblings: Mrs. Ernestine Brown of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, Mrs. Vivian O. Breed of Cordele, Georgia, Mrs. Kitty (George) Harris of Fort Valley, Georgia, Mrs. Brenda (Lynwood) Holmes, Ms. Frances Odom, Cornelius (Gladys) Odom of Montezuma, Georgia, Curry (Alice) Odom of Botavia, New York and Gregory Odom of Covington, Georgia; his godson, Christian Riley of Montezuma, Georgia; aunts and uncles: Mrs. Rosetta O. Funeral services for Mr. E.L. Long of Americus, Georgia will be held on Friday, March 10, 2017 at 11:00 A.M. at Union Tabernacle Baptist Church with Pastor Larry B. Sims, Sr. officiating. Burial will follow at the Daniel Grove Cemetery.

Mr. E.L. Long was born on July 1, 1930 to the late Elmira Long, Sr. and the late Annie B. Long. He was educated in the public schools of Sumter County, GA. At an early age, he moved with his family to Florida where his father was pursuing a career in the Negro Baseball League. He was affectionately known as E.L., and can be seen around town riding on his scooter until his health failed. He loved family and people in general. He was known as the historian in the family because he loved to talk about past generations and the family in general. He was well loved and liked by all in the community.

He was employed many years with Solomon Calloway's Construction Company where he worked until his health failed. As he studied the Bible, his understanding of the word grew and the importance of accepting Christ as his Lord and Savior. He attended church at Church International in Ellaville, GA under the leadership of Elder Jesse Carson. His faith continued until that final hour when he was called home to be with the Lord on Sunday, March 5, 2017 at Phoebe-Sumter Medical Center in Americus, GA. He is preceded in death by two brothers and four sisters: Eddie Long, Marshall Long, Annie Long, Sue Rainey, Eula Small, and Bessie Williams.

He was a brother, uncle, father, grandfather, stepfather, and friend. Whatever capacity he was serving, he was well loved and will be deeply missed. He leaves to celebrate his life one brother and one sister, one brother in-law, arid one sister-in-law: Jimmy Long (Rometa) of Americus, GA; Mary Black Rockledge, FL, and Robert Rainey Melbourne, FL; two daughters: Linda Long, Hazleton, PA and Shiri Taylor (Tyrone), East Orange, NJ; nine grandchildren: Akee Long, Osei Long, Ishiah Long, Samuel Long, Amir Long, Shaleena Long, Jahshaunah Long, Sherrell Taylor, Teeyah Taylor; five devoted nieces and a nephew: Deborah Long, Leslie Long, Cherita Long Coleman (Robert), and Barbara Smith, Americus, GA, Patricia Sandifer, Macon, GA and Russell Baker Rockledge, FL; three great-nephews and one great-niece that he loved and adored: Jordan Long, Elijah Coleman, Joshua Coleman, and Cameran Long that he talked about until the end; a devoted stepdaughter, Angela Bronner, Macon, GA; a devoted caregiver-Sherry Trice from Americus, GA. She went beyond her job as a caregiver and was a devoted friend. He also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, great grandchildren, and friends.
