Deacon Leroy Fisher Smith age 65 of Butler, Georgia died on Thursday, April 10, 2014 at the Houston Medical Center. Funeral services will be held on Friday, April 18, 2014 at 12:00 Noon at the the Taylor County High School Auditorium. Burial will follow at the Essie McDougald Cemetery.

Survivors include his mother, Mrs. Alma Patillar Smith of Butler, GA; two daughters, Ms. D’Angela Smith of Lithonia and Ms. Gwendolyn Bateman of Morrow; sisters, Ms. Gwendolyn Willis of Atlanta and Dr. Evan. Shirley D. Troutman of Butler; brothers, Rev. Weaver L. Smith, Jr. of Butler, Mr. Jurdis Smith of Hardford, Connecticut and Wallace Smith of Augusta, GA. and a host of other loving relatives and friends.

Viewing is on Thursday 1-7PM at Friendship Baptist Church in Butler, GA.

Willie James “Flute” Larry, age 72 of Roberta, Georgia passed away Tuesday, April 1, 2014 at Heart of Georgia Hospice in Perry, Georgia. Willie Larry, son of the late James Larry and Elizabeth Oglesby Larry was born December 12, 1941 in Montezuma, Georgia. He was employed as a truck driver for A.M. Bickley in Marshallville prior to moving to Florida.

Left to cherish his memory are his cousins: Ms. Sarah Baldwin, Constance “Dimp” Baldwin, and Melissa Baldwin all of Montezuma, Georgia, Pebbles Baldwin of Ideal, Georgia, Emma Jean Forbes and LaSonya Larry of Oglethorpe, Georgia; a host of other relatives and friends.

Direct cremation of Mr. Willie James “Flute” Larry was arranged by West’s Mortuary, Montezuma, Georgia.

Memorial services for Ms. Doris Sitton will be Saturday, April 5, 2014 at 11:00 A.M. in the Chapel of West’s Mortuary in Americus, Georgia with Rev. Tommie Jordan officiating. 

 

Ms. Doris Sitton was born in Sumter County, Georgia on September 25, 1930 to the late Mary Lee Walker Powell and Step father Jim Powell. Ms. Doris moved to Miami where she studied Nursing and became a Registered Nurse. She was employed at Miami Children’s Hospital for twenty years.  She was a member of the St Agnes Episcopal Church in Miami under the leadership of Rev. Alexander Ekechukwu. Ms. Sitton died on Sunday, March 30, 2014 at the United Healthcare in South, Carolina. 

 

She leaves to cherish her memory two nieces: Selma Powell of South Carolina and Angela of Macon Georgia; three nephews: James T. Powell of Clewiston, Florida, Michael Stewart of Killeen, Texas and John David Powell, Jr. of Houston, Texas. A host of other relatives and friends also survive.

The Transition from Life to Life Eternal

Jayden Terrence Johnson became absent from the body and present with the Lord on Saturday, March 15, 2014 at Phoebe Sumter Medical Center.  

 

The Beginning of Life

On Saturday, April 10, 2003, David and Fanesia Johnson were abundantly blessed with the birth of their youngest son. They named him Jayden Terrence Johnson.

 

The Scholar

Jayden was an aspiring 5th grader at Sumter County Elementary School, Americus, Georgia, where he was dearly loved and will be missed by all.

 

The Joy of the Lord is My Strength

Jayden’s family presented him to the Lord for baptism as an infant at Campbell Chapel A.M.E. Church, Americus. As he “waxed strong in the spirit” whenever he was able to attend church Jayden enjoyed singing along with the choir his favorite songs “I Heard the Angels Singing,”  “Jesus Loves Me,” and “You Gotta Have That Pure Religion, Hallelujah!” which was taught by his great-grandmother, Lillie Ruth Pace. 

Jayden touched many hearts and lives with his warm heart, inviting smile and extraordinary spirit. Jayden was very strong, courageous and the true definition of a fighter.  He was never afraid nor did he ever get discouraged during his journey, for he always knew that his Lord and Savior were with him.

 

The Beneficiaries of His Legacy

Jayden’s loving and devoted parents David and Fanesia Johnson; two loving and supportive brothers: Shykeith J. Johnson and Dave’on J. Johnson; grandparents: Fannie E. Anthony and the late Michael Anthony, Aaron & Bernice Johnson, great grandparents: Lillie R. Pace, Willie C. Johnson, Katie Johnson, Lucille Brown, Cicero Anthony, the late LaDeice Anthony, the late Albert Mack and the late Lester Broner.  He also leaves to cherish his memories his loving and caring aunts and uncles: Michael (Keya) Anthony, Eric (Jherusia) Anthony, Jamaal Anthony, Yolanda (Andre) Robinson, Roderick (Katisha) Nixon-Johnson, Christina Johnson, Teresa Johnson and Jerilynae Pointer; great aunts and uncles: Rosa M. Pace, Lisa D. Pace, Bonnie F. Williams, Ronald S. Pace, Dennis (Tamyra) Pace, Clyde (Connie) Anthony and the Anthony Family.  Other survivors include Johnny (Cassandra) Mack, Linda Brown, Elizabeth Mack, Beluah Johnson, Willie C. Mrs. Yolander Demetrous Sheppard Fletcher was born on May 10, 1972 to Larry Sheppard and LaDaisy Schley-Ware.  At an early age she joined Mount Salem Baptist Church. She was a graduate of Americus High School class of 1990. Yolander was preceded in death by her grandparents Anne Maude Schley, Johnny Mae Cook, Georgia Lee and Author Lee Sheppard and Inez and Alfred Laster, one aunt Shirley Sheppard Gary, Americus, GA and two uncles: Sylvester Schley, Jacksonville FL, and Ned Brown, Americus, GA

Little Jada Ann Brown was born October 15, 2013 in Americus GA. to Kristin Knowlton Demetrice D. Brown.  She flew home to heaven on February 23, 2014.

Jada is now resting with her family that proceeded her in death: Grandparents; Dorothy A. Knowlton, Charlie (Estelle) Knowlton, Thomas J. Brown, Bessie Mae Myles, Quida Brown, Pat Brown; Aunts; Carolyn knowlton, Gloria Knowlton, Stephanie Ann Brown and Latresh “Tweety” Brown.

Mr. Clarence Thomas, Jr., age 78, of Travelers Rest Road, Montezuma, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 18, 2014 at Montezuma Health and Rehabilitation Center. Funeral services were held on Tuesday, February 25, 2014 at 1:00 P.M. at the New Hope Baptist Church with Rev. Allen Waters officiating.

Clarence Thomas, Jr. was born May 11, 1935 in Montezuma, Georgia. He was the fifth child born to the late Clarence Tolbert Thomas and Lonnie Haugabook Thomas. Siblings who preceded him in death are Betty Green, Harvey Thomas, Joe Lewis Thomas, Mary Lizzie Thomas and Earnest James Thomas.

He leaves to cherish his memory, a daughter: Louise Bibbs of St. Robert, Missouri; two grandchildren: Veronica Williams and Willie J. Williams, Jr. (Mindy), and eight grandchildren all of St. Robert, Missouri; a loving and devoted niece and nephew Jacqueline and Damon Felton of Montezuma, Georgia; two sisters: Dorothy Thomas of Montezuma, Georgia and Millie Loman of Atlanta, Georgia; a host of nieces, nephews, other loving relatives and friends.

Ms. Viola Glover

Funeral services for Ms. Viola Louise Glover of Plains, Georgia will be held on Saturday, February 22, 2014 at 1:00 P.M. at the St John A.M.E. Church in Plains, Georgia with Pastor Shirley Strawter officiating. Burial will follow at the Lebanon Cemetery in Plains, Georgia.

 Viola Louise Glover was born January 18, 1951 in Sumter County, Georgia to the late Tiney Glover and the late Viola Williams Glover. She was educated in the Sumter County School System. Ms. Viola is preceded in death by an Uncle Aaron Glover Jr. At an early age she joined St. John A. M. E. Church of Plains Georgia, where she sang in the choir and was the church custodian. “Ms. Vi” as she was affectionately called, loved her family and to plant flowers in her yard. She also was a faithful worker at Ryan’s steak house for 10 years until her health failed. Ms. Glover died on Saturday, February 15, 2014 at the Phoebe-Sumter Medical Center in Americus, Georgia.

 

Viola leaves to cherish her memories; two daughters: Glenda Glover (Claude) of Tampa Florida and Salena Glover (Corey) of Americus Georgia; one son, Clemond Glover (Cindy) of Americus, Georgia; two sisters: Lizzie Harper of Americus, Georgia and Lena Wilson of Plains Georgia; one brother, Moses Glover Sr. of Detroit, Michigan; one uncle, Clarence Jordan of Alabama; very close friends: Jan Hobgood, Janie Harper (Billy), Shirley Gary (Dudley). Mr. Joseph B. Williams was born in Buena Vista, Georgia on July 25, 1954 to the late John Minyard and Mahalia Williams.  

 

Survivors include his wife of 40 years Mrs. Jeanette Brown Williams of Americus, Georgia; A daughter Ms. Cheryl Williams of Americus, Georgia; one sister, Mrs. Jeanette Robinson of Jonesboro, Georgia; three sisters-in-Law: Mrs. Edna Wilborn, Mrs. Katie Seay and Ms. Dorothy Seay all of Americus, Georgia; three grandchildren: Shymeka Williams, Jakalen Williams and Jakelen Williams all of Americus, Georgia; one great grandson, Princeton Williams of Americus, Georgia; two devoted cousins: Mrs. Lorene Floyd and Mrs. Hattie Pitts both of Americus, Georgia; a devoted niece, Mrs. Claudia Walters of Americus, Georgia. Several other relatives and friends also survive.
