Memorial Services for Mr. Robert Earl Moore, Jr. age 49 of Americus, Georgia will be held on Saturday, July 13, 2013 at 2:00 P.M. at Oasis World Outreach on N. Dudley Street in Americus, Georgia.

Mr. Robert Earl Moore, Jr. was born in Miami, Florida on July 24, 1963 to Robert Earl Moore, Sr. and Mary Green. He graduated from Americus High School in 1981. Earl was employed at Wal-Mart as a stock clerk. He was preceded in death by a granddaughter Ms. Zarkira Poole. Earl died on Wednesday, July 10, 2013 at the Phoebe-Sumter Medical Center.

He is survived by his wife Fannie Flowers Moore; five children: Kenyda Moore, Robert Moore, Quentin Moore, Manisha Bess and Talisa Moore all of Americus, Georgia; one sister, Christine Tookes of Americus, Georgia; four brothers: Willie Barker of Americus, Georgia, Robert Lee Davis of Millen, Georgia, Min. Walter Moore of Americus Georgia and Jonathan Wallace of Jacksonville, Florida; two devoted friends: Eleanor Tyner Clark and Cynthia Bess McCrary both of Americus, Georgia. Mrs. Denise Miller Hunter was born on September 15, 1962 in Brooklyn, New York to Cora Benefield and James Miller. She departed this life on July 5, 2013 at her home in Fort Pierce, Florida. She was preceded in death by her grandmother Magnolia Taylor and an uncle James Taylor, Jr.

 

 

She leaves to mourn her passing her mother Cora Benefield of Port St. Lucie Florida; her father James Miller of Brooklyn, New York; three aunts: Ossie Lockett, Mary Burton (Charles) of Smithville, Georgia and Willa Collie of Port St Lucie, Florida; five uncles: Thomas Taylor, Jerome Taylor, Bobby Taylor and Jimmie Lee Benefield all of Smithville, Georgia and Lewis James Benefield of West Palm Beach, Florida. Funeral services for Eugene Hicks, Sr. will be Saturday, July 6, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at Rocky Mount Missionary Baptist Church, Reynolds, Georgia with Elder David Towns officiating.  Burial will follow in Lucas Cemetery, Reynolds, Georgia. 

 

Eugene Hicks, Sr. known to many as “Peter Rabbit” was born on July 1, 1935 in Reynolds, Georgia to Hattie Ruth Montford and Sid Hicks, Sr. He was united in holy matrimony to Eunice “Polly” Troutman Hicks. For many years he worked at Wainwright Peach Farms as a Field Foreman. He later worked for W.D. Williams Horticulture and Flowers Center of Reynolds. Mr. Hicks passed away on July 2, 2013 at the Medical Center of Central Georgia in Macon, Georgia. 

 

His memory will forever be cherished by his wife, Eunice “Polly” Hicks; two loving children: Gloria “Tammy” Ethridge and Eugene (Silvia Ann) Hicks, Jr. both of Warner Robins, Georgia; one brother, Sid Hicks, Jr.; two sisters: Isabell Gibson Little and Minnie Corbin both of Reynolds, Georgia; six grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren; a devoted friend, Jerry Smith and his two granddaughters: April Gouch and LaTonya Gouch; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and many dear friends.

Funeral services for Mr. Jessie Lee Kendrick of Americus, GA will be on Monday, June 24, 2013 at 2:00 P.M. at the Friendship Baptist Church on Cotton Ave. in Americus, GA with Bishop Melvin McCluster officiating. Burial will follow at the Mt. Creek Cemetery.

 

Mr. Jessie Lee Kendrick was born on July 19, 1958 in Americus GA to Mr. Jeffie Lee Kendrick and Mrs. Mildred Kendrick.

 

He was a graduate of Bing Hampton North High School of Binghamton NY. He was employed with Singer-Link Division-Gilbane Construction Company and self-employed as a painting contractor. Jessie was a lively and loveable person who could get everyone to laugh. Jessie died on Wednesday, June 19, 2013 at the Miona Geriatric & Dementia Center in Ideal, GA. 

 

He leaves to cherish his memories four children: Rekita Kendrick of Warner Robins, GA, Joquet Love Kendrick of Binghamton NY Crystal Cleveland of Mt. Clemons MI; four brothers: Mr. Rome Kendrick Sr. (Lillie) of Olive Branch MS, Mr. Alonzo Kendrick of Dallas, TX. Mr. Donald (Rose) Kendrick of Americus GA and Mr. Rodney Kendrick of Binghamton NY; three sisters: Ms. Catherine Andrew of Binghamton NY, Mrs. Margie Cunningham (Mark) of Pickerington Ohio and Mrs. Patricia Cabbell (Fredrick) of Chestnut Ridge NY; four grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends, including devoted friends: Mr. Milton Terry, Mr. Nathaniel Jowers, Mr. Kelvin Hawkins, Mr. Jessie Smith, Mr. Marvin Tullis, Mr. Frank Davis, Mr. Carl Jones, Mr. Frankie Williams and Morris Williams. Mr. Charles Gilbert

Dr. Charles W. Gilbert Sr. was born on January 25th, 1939 in Hancock County to the late Forest and Ruth Gilbert.   As a young boy he joined Macedonia Baptist Church and committed his life to Christ.  During his professional life he lived in many communities across the U.S.  In every community he called home he united with a local church where he served God in many capacities.  In West Pittsburg, California he joined the West Pittsburg Baptist church where he was chairman of the Building Fund. He also served as a grant writer for other churches in the West Pittsburg community.   In Warner Robbins, Dr. Gilbert was a member of Union Grove Missionary Baptist Church since 2006.  As a member of Union Grove  he was Chairman of the Alando Bray Kidney Fund and worked faithfully to achieve the fund’s ultimate goal of raising sufficient funds to get Alando Bray placed on the transplant list.  

Dr. Gilbert earned a B.S. degree from Tuskegee University, an MSW from the University of  Kansas, an MA degree from the University of  Northern Colorado and a doctorate of  Public Administration from Golden Gate University.  He was a member of the Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity Incorporated.  After serving his country in the U.S. Army he worked as a high school teacher, counselor for the Veterans Administration, Division Chief for the Veterans Affairs Regional Office and the Internal Revenue Service in Newark, New Jersey, Assistant Regional Commissioner for the Internal Revenue Service in San Francisco, California and Adjunct Professor of Public Administration at Golden Gate University.  He was a highly sought after motivational speaker who donated his time whenever possible.  He was supportive of a variety of civic organizations exemplified by his lifetime memberships in both the Disabled American Veterans Association (DAV)  and the NAACP.  He enjoyed reading, writing and debating.  His favorite hobby was barbecuing and hosting family and friends. 

Dr. Charles Gilbert, Sr. leaves to cherish his loving memory:  his devoted wife of 51 years,Earlene, two children:  Charlene Gilbert-Ferris (Dr. James V. Ferris) and Charles W. Gilbert, Jr. (Angie), four grandchildren:  Ashara, Kinya, Simone, and Chuck, four first cousins: Leamon Grier, Gilbert Grier and the Reverend Clarence Grier of Augusta, Georgia and Theodore Grier of Clinton, Maryland; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

 Funeral Services for Mr. John Melvin Welborn of Americus, Georgia will be held on Saturday, June 15, 2013 at 2:30 at the Union Tabernacle Baptist Church. Mr. Welborn died on Saturday, June 8, 2013 at the Phoebe-Sumter Medical Center. 

Mr. John Melvin Welborn was born on July 29, 1941 to the late Mr. Foster & Tommie Lee Welborn. He was preceded in death by two sons Michael Welborn and Victor Welborn.

 

Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife of 42 years, Mrs. Edna Jane Welborn of Americus, Georgia; four daughters: Mrs. Claudia (Darrell) Walters, Mrs. Carla (Willie) Berry, Mrs. Cassandra (Walter) Davis and Ms. Ilene Welborn all of Americus, Georgia; nine sons: John (Velma) Welborn, Tellias (Joanna) Welborn, Charles (Theresa) Welborn, Tommy Welborn, Eddie (Joann) Welborn, Freddie Mullins, Henry Charles (Rosie) Welborn, Calvin (Shanita Banks) and Alfonza Banks all of Americus, Georgia; a devoted sister, Mrs. Dorothy Jean (L.C.) Mr. Joseph T. Hooks Sr., son of the late Helen Louise Johnson Hooks and Jimmie Lee Hooks Sr., was born February 15, 1950 in Plains, Georgia. Mr. Joe Hooks, as he was affectionately known worked for Columbus Consolidated Government and Columbus Parks and Recreation for over 19 years. He entered into eternal rest Saturday, June 8, 2013, at The Medical Center in Columbus, Georgia. He was preceded in death by his daughter Leeshonda Hooks, a son Sammy Hardrick, a daughter-in-law Martha Hooks, three sisters: Minnie P. Hooks, Edna D. Hooks, and Shirley Hooks Jernigan, a brother James Hooks and one aunt Annie Ruth Jackson.

Mr. James Leonard Burney, Sr. age 74 of Americus, Georgia died on Friday, June 7, 2013 at the Phoebe-Sumter Medical Center in Americus, Georgia. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 15, 2013 at 11:00 A.M. at the New Hope A.M.E. in Smithville, Georgia. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.

Mr. James Leonard Burney, Sr. was born on December 8, 1938 in Macon County, Georgia to the late Thomas Burney and the late Mrs. Addie Burney. At an early age he joined the New Hope Baptist Church. He was educated in the Lee County Public School System. Mr. Burney was employed for many years at Reeves Construction Company. He was married to the late Polly Mae Young Burney and this union was blessed with six children, one daughter, Diana Burney Green preceded him in death. Three siblings also preceded him in death: Thomas Burney, Leroy Burney and Doris Jenkins.

Graveside services for Mrs. Jacqueline Coleman Washington of Dudley Street Americus, Georgia will be held on Saturday, June 8, 2013  at 11:00 A.M. at the Eastview Cemetery with Bishop Arthur Fulton officiating. 

 

Mrs. Jacqueline Coleman Washington was born on August 24, 1967 in Sumter County, Georgia to Mrs. Nellie Coleman and Mr. O.Z. Coleman. She was educated in the Sumter County School System and was a 1985 graduate of Americus High School. In 1992 she married Emmett Washington and this union was blessed with two children, Rashieka Coleman and DeShaun Washington. Jacqueline was briefly employed at Georgia Farm Produce Company. On Tuesday, May 28, 2013 at the Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital in Albany, Georgia, God ended her struggle and called her home to rest.    

 

She leaves to cherish her memory her husband, Emmitt Washington; two children: Rashieka Coleman and DeShaun Washington; her siblings: Alicia Dowdell, Joyce (Paul) Harvey Theresa Coleman, Melinda Coleman, Clarence Coleman, Joseph (Mary) Coleman, Otis Coleman, Jerome Coleman, Jeffery Coleman, Willie James Coleman, Tony Coleman and Gabriel Coleman; one grandson, Jaylen M. Memorial services for Ms. Robin Michelle Crittenden of Oglethorpe, Georgia will be Saturday June 1, 2013 at 3:00 P.M in the Chapel of West’s Mortuary in Montezuma, Georgia with Chaplain Geraldine Manning officiating.

 

Ms. Robin Michelle Crittenden was born to the late Gloria Joseph Crittenden and Harvey Crittenden on October 16, 1967 in Elizabeth, New Jersey. She grew up in Plainfield, New Jersey where she attended the Plainfield Public School system and graduated from Plainfield High School.

 

Robin, aka “Yoo-Hoo”, was well-known throughout the community for her bodacious personality and undeniable sense of style. She had an undying love for music and a strong angelic voice. Whether at family functions, lounging around the house, or walking down the street, Robin would bolt out beautiful notes and captivate her audience. 

 

After residing in Plainfield for many years, Robin relocated to Montezuma, Georgia in 2002 to be with her family. She was a loyal mother, daughter, sister, aunt, and friend. Robin passed away on Sunday, May 26, 2013 at her residence. Her son, Ahmad “Shotty” Crittenden preceded her in death. 

 

She leaves a legacy of love and memories to her granddaughter, Ahmai Rashai Crittenden; her sisters: Tanisha Crittenden, Evette Crittenden, and Marcellene Joseph-Martin; brother, Mark Joseph; grandmother, Cora Manning; nephew, Jamal Joseph-Wheeler; nieces: Jasmine Joseph-Wheeler, Madelynn Crittenden, Jocelynn Searchwell and Anisha Rivera; great nephews: Khyren and Jordan Joseph; aunts: Artizellea Leftenant, Millicent Whitfield, Cora Billingslea, Lillie Estrada, Hattie Manning and Romaine Anderson; uncles: John Manning, Dewey Manning, Henry Manning, Tyrone Manning and Ester Joseph; a host of cousins and close friends that she loved dearly.
