Funeral services for Ms. Elizabeth Annette Peeples Bunkley of Butler, Georgia will be held on Saturday, August 30, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. at Second Flint River Missionary Baptist Association Center in Butler, Georgia with Elder David Towns, Jr. officiating. Burial will follow at Little Vine Cemetery in Reynolds, Georgia. Visitation will be Friday from 1:00 to 7:00 at Welcome Home Baptist Church in Butler, Georgia.

Born in Reynolds, Taylor County, Georgia, Ms. Elizabeth Bunkley was the daughter of the late Mr. Bennie Peeples, Sr. and the late Ms. Lula Towns Peeples and was affectionately called “Leah”. At an early age, she accepted Jesus Christ as her savior and joined Macedonia Baptist Church. She was married to Mr. Johnny Bunkley who preceded her in death. They shared many years together. Ms. Bunkley passed away Wednesday, August 20, 2014 in Columbus, Georgia.

Her memories will forever be cherished by her loving daughter, Patricia Evon (Larry) Kendrick of Butler, GA; three devoted grandchildren, Emmanuel Bunkley, Tyronda Bunkley, and Larry Kendrick, Jr.; a devoted friend, Frankie Ford; four brothers: Shellie (Zella) Peeples of Junction City, GA, Lorenzo (Cathy) Peeples of Thomaston, GA, Johnny Harris and Timothy Peeples both of Reynolds, GA; two sisters: Linda (Forrest) Bunkley and Angelia Parks both of Butler, GA; five aunts: Nellie Towns of Reynolds, GA, Eula Pearl Towns of Atlanta, GA, Margaret Lockhart of Milwaukee, WI, Christine Edwards and Essie Lee Towns both of Butler, GA; two uncles: David (Christine) Towns, Sr. of Butler, GA and Alexander Towns of Milwaukee, WI; a sister-in-law, Bessie Brown of Butler, GA; a brother-in-law, Willie (Dorothy) Phelps of Reynolds, GA; a devoted friend, Betty Lee Wilson; her great-great grandchildren: Emmanuel “Spike” Ross, Marlaysia Bunkley, Zy’Kerriah Jones, Markia Bunkley, Dallas Jones, Jr. and Aden Corbin; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

 

Funeral services for Mr. Harry A. Lewis age 90 of Americus, Georgia will be held on Saturday, August 16, 2014 at 10:00 A.M. at his home on Laudig Lane in Americus, Georgia with Elder David Towns officiating. Burial will follow at the Eastview Cemetery.

Mr. Harry A. Lewis was born on April 26, 1924. He was the son of the late Alvin Ecot Lewis of Barbados and the late Alice Clark of Saint Kitts. Mr. Lewis lived a full, blessed and productive life. He received a Bachelor's Degree in liberal arts.  Mr. Lewis had a long and distinguished professional career in county government and the banking industry.  Positions Mr. Lewis held during his career included operations manager of the check processing division, First Fidelity Bank and Director of Buildings and Grounds, Division of Public Works for Essex County New Jersey. Mr. Lewis was also an income tax specialist and helped many people during his lifetime. The general public perception was that Harry A. Lewis wrote the IRS tax code because his knowledge and expertise was so vast. Mr. Lewis was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church in Newark, New Jersey, where he once served as an acolyte and was involved in many church ministries. Harry and Della were married on May 10, 1981.  To this union no children were born. Mr. Lewis died on Saturday, August 9, 2014 at the Phoebe-Sumter Medical Center in Americus, Georgia. He was preceded in death by a son Shoncliff Lewis.

Mr. Lewis leaves to cherish his memories: His loving wife, Della, of Americus, Georgia; one son, Carleton Lewis of Newark, New Jersey; two daughters: Melody Josey of Americus, Georgia, and Vanessa Josey of Americus, Georgia; nine grandchildren: Stephanie, Shoncliff (Jr.), Yanni, Ledelle, Xavier, Candace, Nina, Alana, Keliliah; nine great grandchildren: Gabrielle, Taylor, Alyssa, Caleb, Spirit, Desmond, Devin, James, Sydney; one sister, Doris Lewis of Newark, New Jersey; one brother Duncan Maughn of Barbados (preceded in death); one niece Lorraine Lewis of Newark, New Jersey; one nephew Victor Maughn of Barbados; four sisters-in-law: one brother-in-law and a host of other relatives.

Funeral services for Deacon Clarence Josey affectionately known as “Cotton Tail” of Americus, Georgia will be held on Tuesday, August 12, 2014 at 1:00 P.M. at the Mt Olive Baptist Church with Rev. Dr. H.C. Wilson officiating. Burial will follow at the Eastview Cemetery. 

Deacon Clarence Josey was born in Sumter County, Georgia on March 7, 1937 to the late Eddie & Fannie Josey. He received his education in the Americus School System. He later moved to New York and worked several years for Owens Illinois Glass Company. In 1974 he moved back to Americus and worked at Round Tree & Glovers Wholesale Grocery Company. Mr. Josey later joined the Mt. Olive Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon until his health failed. Mr. Josey died on Friday, August 8, 2014 at the Lillian Carter Nursing Home in Plains, Georgia. He was preceded in death by three siblings: Ms. Juanita Brown Josey, Mrs. Sandra Josey Williams and Mr. Wilbur G. Josey. 

He leaves to mourn his passing a devoted wife of 50 years, Mrs. Jewell Greene Josey of Americus, Georgia; one son Clarence Newkirk Josey of Clinton, South Carolina; four sisters: Ms. Lena Josey, Mrs. Mary (James) Russell, Mrs. Carmen (William) Clark, and Ms. Lorena Josey; three brothers: Mr. Eddie W. Josey, Mr. Jimmy (Doris) Josey and James (Mary) Josey all of Americus, Georgia; four sisters-in-law: Mrs. Ruby Jean Brewer of Hazlehurst, Georgia, Mrs. Zadine B. Harris of Linden, New Jersey, Mrs. Barbara (Jesse) Johnson of Glenwood, Georgia and Ms. Gail Dixon of Alamo, Georgia; two brothers-in-law: Mr. George (Francis) Greene of Linden, New Jersey and Mr. Troy (Gloria) Greene of Irvington, New Jersey; one aunt, Mrs. Ida Bell Floyd; one uncle, Mr. William Floyd; two devoted friends: Mr. Benjamin Jones and Mr. John Roach. Several of relatives and friends also survive.

 

 Funeral services for Mr. Charlie C. Angry, Sr. affectionately known as “Barbeque Man” will be held on Saturday, August 2, 2014 at 11:00 A.M. at the Zion Hope Baptist Church in Sumter City with Pastor George F. Monts officiating. Burial will follow at the Israel Cemetery. Mr. Angry died on Thursday, July 24, 2014 at the Magnolia Manor Nursing Home. 

Mr. Charlie Angry was born in Sumter Co. on June 6, 1920 to the parentage of the Mr. Press Angry and the late Mrs. Mae Bell Ross Angry.  He was married to Mrs. Ruth Thelma Green Angry for 39 years.  To this union eight children were born, two preceded him in death, Mr. Charlie Angry Jr., and Mr. Willie C. Angry.  He was also preceded in death by four siblings: Robert Lee Angry, Rufus George Angry, Mattie Williams and Nettie Ruth Jackson. 

He leaves to cherish his memories four sons: Mr. Johnny Lee (Bernice) of Smithville GA, Mr. Sandford (Dorothy), Jessie Lee (Elaine) and Mr.  George Angry all of Americus, GA. two daughters: Mrs. Ruth Perry and Mrs. Thelma M. Brantley both of Americus, GA, and five children that he raised as his own: Miss Imogene Angry, Mr. Willie Green Jr., Mrs. Bobby L. Paul, Ms. Bernice Green and the late Mrs. Eva Green Broner all of Americus, GA; four sisters: Mrs.  Mary Lynn Rumph of Boynton Beach, FL, Mrs. Lillie Mae Merritt and Mrs. Collie M. Williams all of Americus, GA and Mrs. Bertha Mae Evans of Miami, FL; one sister-in-law, Mrs. Mary Green of Americus, GA; two brothers-in-law, Willie Green Sr. and Mr. William Green of Americus, GA; 23 grandchildren, 45 great grandchildren, 10 great great grandchildren and 1 great, great, great grandchild. A host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends also survive. 

Memorial Service for Ms. Dorothy McGill of North Chicago, Il formerly of Americus, GA were held on Saturday, July 5, 2014, 1:00 P.M. in the Chapel of West Mortuary in Americus, Georgia.

Dorothy was born in Americus, Ga on, May 3, 1942, to the late Elliot and Amy Roberson. Dorothy was also preceded in death by two sisters, Emma Wright and Ethel Roberson.

For her safety and wellbeing, Dorothy was raised in the home of close relatives in Americus, Ga:  Ivory and Annie L. Dowdell, Jacob Dowdell and Susie ‘Mae’ Monson.   Susie Monson became Dorothy’s surrogate mother, and a strong bond of siblings was established with Jacob S. Dowdell and Dorothy Dowdell both of Americus, GA; Shirley (Howard) Childs, Hiram, Ga; Dell Jones, Cordele Ga; Eula (Ronald) Boatwright Petersburg VA; Linda Smith also of Petersburg VA; Angie (Debra) Monson of Griffin, Ga; Lloyd Tracy (Mary) Monson, Petersburg, Va; Darrell (Terri Jo) Monson of Norcross, Ga; Fanita Phillips, Americus, Ga and Deborah (Ronald) Cunningham, Petersburg, Va.  She also leaves two nieces, Mae Dorothy Wright of Dawson, Ga; and Emma Lou Wright also of Dawson, Ga.  A host of other family and friends also survive.

 

Funeral services for Mr. Simmie Lee Williams “Munch” of Americus, Georgia will be held on Saturday, July 5, 2014 at 11:00 A.M. at the Americus Pentecostal Church on Magnolia Street in Americus, Georgia with Elder Henry Louis officiating. Burial will follow at the Eastview Cemetery. 

Mr. Simmie Lee Williams was born on April 10, 1946 in Americus, Georgia to the late Walter Williams and the late Gladys Jackson Williams. Simmie affectionately known as “Munch” attended Eastview Elementary and Staley High Public Schools.  In his earlier years, Munch was a great artist and enjoyed singing.  He also had a passion for working on cars.  He was always willing to help others.  Simmie resided at the Pines Personal Care Home in Albany Georgia until his health failed.  He was humorous and love attending bible study. On June 29, 2014 God called him home. He was preceded in death by five siblings. 

He is survived by two sisters; Johnnie Mae Hale (Jimmie) of Jonesboro Georgia and Delores Davis of Temecula California; four brothers: Daniel Lee Williams of Santa Monica, California, Edward Lee Williams (Patricia), Windsor Connecticut; Fletcher Lee Williams (Anita) of Americus Georgia and Grover Earl Williams of Americus, Georgia; one aunt, Viola Williams of Covington, Georgia; one uncle, John Henry Williams of Hartford Connecticut; Several nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends also survive.

Mr. Otis Evans, age 79, of Montezuma, Georgia passed away on Friday, June 27, 2014 at his residence. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, July 3, 2014 at 11:00 at New Hope Baptist Church in Montezuma, Georgia with Rev. Allen Waters officiating. Burial will follow at Champ Waters Cemetery.

Otis Evans was born in Macon County, Georgia on November 19, 1934 to the late Maggie Killings McKenzie and the late Hershey Evans. He accepted Jesus Christ as his personal savior and joined New Hope Baptist Church at an early age. He was owner and operator of Evans Body Shop.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Mrs. Willie Ruth Evans of Montezuma; six children: Leslie Evans of Chicago, Illinois, Otis Evans of California, Gaivelle Carouthers (Kerry) of Durham, North Carolina, Sonja Martin of Montezuma, Georgia, Tosha Evans of Fayettville, North Carolina, and Toris Evans of Columbus, Georgia; a host of grandchildren, great grands and great great grands; his sisters: Hilda Cooks of Chicago, Illinois, Cora Shelly and Annie Neal Collier (Willie) of Montezuma, Georgia; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law: Essie Dennis and Barbara Dennis of Ft. Valley, Georgia, Ann Myrick (Lorenzo) of Tallahassee, Florida, Eddie Dennis of Atlanta, Georgia and Cora Thornton (Carl); a devoted niece, Louise Jones (Charles) of Montezuma, Georgia; a host of other nieces and nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Mr. Eddie L. Walters, Jr. age 42 of Americus, Georgia passed away on Saturday, June 14, 2014, at the Green Acres Health and Rehab Center in Milledgeville GA. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 21, 2014 at 11:00 A.M at Union Tabernacle Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Staley Memorial Gardens.

Eddie Lee Walters, Jr. was born on August 2, 1971 in Detroit, MI to Eddie Lee Walters, Sr. and Johnnie Mae Williams Walters. Eddie grew up in Detroit, MI and moved to Americus, GA in the late 80’s.  He graduated from Americus High School in 1988 at the age of 16. Eddie began attending Georgia Southwestern College in 1989, where he majored in Psychology and Education. He became a father on December 29, 1993, when his daughter Crystal Nicole Walters was born. Eddie had a thirst for music, learning, and for helping others. He held various jobs, which included positions at Sumter Regional Hospital, Middle Flint Behavioral Healthcare, Good Works. In the Fall of 1994 his met his first love, Leslie Middleton, and they were married on September 16, 1997. From their union was born Benjamin James Davis Walters (January 4, 1998) and Jordan Alexander Walters (January 31, 2001). Eddie loved family above all else and strived to be an outstandingly devoted father and husband. In 1999, Eddie was diagnosed with Congestive Heart Failure and battled this disease for 16 long years. Throughout his medical struggles, Eddie continued to believe and have faith in God and encouraged his family to attend church and put God at the forefront of their lives. In November 2005, Eddie joined Shipp Chapel Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Daniel Clinton. Eddie loved attending bible study and, until the end, had faith that God would heal his earthly body. However, God had other plans and called Eddie home to rest on June 14, 2014. 

He is survived by is his Loving and devoted wife, Leslie Middleton Walters; his loving children Crystal Nicole Walters, Benjamin James Davis Walters and Jordan Alexander Walters; his father, Eddie L. Walters, Sr. (Anita); his mother Johnnie Hale (Jimmie); brothers: Shadeed Williams and Craytonio  Conley; one sister, Sekeithia Denise Walters (Tierre); mother-in-Law, Dorothy Middleton (Ralph); aunts: Deloris Davis, Deborah Bell (Morris), Christine Walters, Sekeithia Gayle Walters and Cora Battle Towns; uncles: Havolia Walters, Darryl (Claudia) Walters, Simmie Williams, Daniel Williams, Edward Williams (Patricia), Fletcher (Anita) Williams and Grover Earl Williams; great aunt, Mary Leoney; sisters-in-Law: Teresa Middleton and Hillary Middleton; great uncle, Aaron Walters, Sr. Several other family and friends also survive.
