The Graveside Service for Ms. Mattie Julia Westberry of Montezuma will be held on Sunday, January 31, 2021 at 1:00 P.M. at New Hope Baptist Church with Rev. Allen Waters officiating. Due to COVID-19 concerns, we ask that you MASK UP and continue social distancing for your protection and for the safety of others.

Ms. Mattie Julia Westberry, affectionately known as “Matt Julia” was born September 21, 1932 in Montezuma, Georgia to the late Mattie Bell Westberry and Clarence Patrick. She was reared by her grandparents Julia Ann and Jack Westberry.  She was a graduate of the Flint River Farms School and worked until she retired from the Macon County School System.  To know her was to love her.  She was honest with everyone she met.  Her favorite pastimes included cooking, high school sports, and listening to and watching the Atlanta Braves. The radio was on when she got up and when she went to bed.

Ms. Mattie confessed her faith in Jesus Christ at an early age at the New Hope Baptist Church. Before her health failed, she attended church regularly and was an active member of the Usher Ministry.  In her later years, she was installed as one of the Mothers of the Church.

On Sunday morning, January 24, 2021, Ms. Mattie made her transition from this earthly life to sweet eternity with her Heavenly Father.  Ms. Mattie will be missed but never forgotten.

Left to cherish her loving memory are her children:  Gaynette McKenzie, Wynette Larry and Bobby Westberry (Elizabeth) all of Montezuma, Georgia, Phillip Westberry (Cathy) of Tacoma, Washington, Tony Westberry (Karin) of  Fayetteville, North Carolina and Debra Bell-Dison of Albany, Georgia; her grandchildren:  Emmett McKenzie, Jr. (LaChaka), Sherman Larry, Layla McKenzie, Zhoe McKenzie, Isaiah Larry, Jeremy Larry, Danisha Williams and DeQuan Williams all of Montezuma, Georgia, Yolanda Larry of Fort Valley, Georgia, Yetta McKenzie (Dewanna) of Warner Robins, Georgia, Jeremy Westberry (Andrieka) of Oglethorpe, Georgia, Zalinski Westberry (Shay) of Byron, Georgia,  Bobbie Westberry of Perry, Georgia, Johnathan Adams (Star) of Americus, Georgia, Latisha Council (Michael) and Chantee Westberry all of Fayetteville, North Carolina, Matthew Westberry (Nis) of Tacoma, Washington and David Bell-Dison of Albany, Georgia; a host of devoted great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends, including the nurses and staff at the Montezuma Health and Rehabilitation Center.
