The Graveside Service for Mrs. Nannie Mae Tooke of Montezuma, Georgia will be held on Saturday, January 9, 2021 at 1:00 P.M. at Champ Waters Cemetery with Reverend Jeffrey Randall officiating. Due to COVID-19 concerns, we ask that you MASK UP and continue social distancing for your protection and for the safety of others.
Nannie Mae Tooke peacefully transitioned from this earthly life on January 5, 2021 following a brief illness. We all thank God for the blessings received from 101 years of her faith-filled life and service to her family, friends, church and community.
Nannie was born in Montezuma, Georgia on August 6, 1919 to the late Marshall Forbes and Amanda Kaigler Forbes. She attended public school in Macon County and gave her life to Christ at the tender age of 10 at First Salem Baptist Church. She was a dedicated missionary, deaconess and became the Church Mother in her later years. She was joined in matrimony with George W. Tooke who preceded her in death. Her favorite pastimes were cooking, eating, talking to friends, giving to the needs of others, loving on family and friends and making sure that the youth of the church did their “homework.”
Two children preceded her in death: Marshall Forbes and George W. Tooke, Jr. She is survived by her sister, Mary Liza Harrison; a sister-in law, Bertha Forbes; her children: Georgia Boyd of Americus, Georgia, Wyonnie Tooke of Perry, Georgia, Arthur Mae Paster (Willie James) of Montezuma, Georgia, Patsy Carter of Vienna, Georgia, Sammie James Forbes of Montezuma, Georgia, Thomas Forbes of Atlanta, Georgia, Bertha Lee Tooke of Chicago, Illinois and Mary Alice McCleod of Scottsdale, Arizona; and a grandson she raised as her own, Stephen Leon Tooke of Portland, Oregon. Surviving grandchildren include: Keeshia Carter, Walter Carter, Jr., Vincent Tooke, Carey Tooke, James Vason, Jr., Stephen Vason, Ameka Carroll, Patricia Davis, Sammie Forbes, Jr., Wynette Collier, Milton Collier, Jada Boyd, Imari Boyd, Ebony Short, Cierra Boyd, Valerie McCleod and Myron Johnson; twenty great grandchildren, six great-great grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends, including faithful friends and neighbors: Earl Woolfork and family and her caregivers: Tyesha Rucker and Mazie Harris.
