The Funeral Service for Mrs. Leila Mae White Josey of Americus, Georgia will be held on Saturday, November 21, 2020 at 1:00 p.m. on the Front Lawn at Allen Chapel A.M.E. Church 132 Bumphead Road, Americus, GA. Interment will follow at New Mt. Mariah Baptist Church Cemetery
Mrs. Leila Mae White Josey was born May 21, 1937. Her mother preceded her in death soon after giving birth to her and she was cared for by her deceased dear Aunt, Mrs. Mae Belle Cox who raised her as her own. She was married to Clarence Josey, Jr. who preceded her in death. She was a long-standing faithful member of Allen Chapel A.M.E. Church where she served in roles as secretary, treasurer, choir member, and as a Missionary. She was a professional seamstress that was well known in the community for making tailored garments. She worked full-time at Manhattan Shirt Company and retired from Spilene in Ellaville, GA. She was also preceded in death by two sisters, Ms. Alma White and Mrs. Margaret Cox Mercer; and one son Mr. Anthony E. Josey.
She leaves to mourn the loss of her contagious smile, one daughter, Mrs. Deborah Josey Burks (Joseph) Smith of Macon, GA; four sons: Mr. Clarence Josey III, Mr. Ronald Josey, Americus, GA; Mr. Ernest M. (Carolyn) Josey, Buena Vista, GA; and Mr. John F. Josey, Atlanta, GA; Three granddaughters: Ms. Amber Josey Caldwell, Mrs. Leila-Chassity Jones (Bradley) Small, Americus, GA and Ms. Rayven Josey Burks, Macon, GA. One sister, Ms. Ozella White, Americus, GA; Five great-grandchildren; Four sisters-in-law: Ms. Doris Josey, Mrs. Viola (James) Bridges, Americus, GA; Mrs. Willie Josey, Belle Glade, FL; and Mrs. Addie Pearl Josey, Columbia, SC; Two devoted nieces: Mrs. Brenda (Allison) Harris and Mrs. Alice (Eddie) Mercer. Devoted cousins: Mrs. Ozella Ferrell, Ms. Leila Meadows, Ms. Sarah Turrentine, Jimmy Meadows and Linda Meadows Spivey. A host of nieces and nephews also survive. Dearly devoted friends Mrs. Evelyn Raines and Mr. and Mrs. F. L. (LaVerne) McLaughlin.
