Mr. James Moten Simpson, Jr. of Americus, Georgia passed away on Friday, July 24, 2020 at Phoebe Sumter Medical Center in Americus, Georgia. A private service will be held on Monday, August 3, 2020 at 10:00 A.M. at the Andersonville National Cemetery. Due to Covid-19 concerns, there is a limit of 25 people that can attend the service. We ask that you please MASK UP and continue social distancing for your protection and for the safety of others.

“Simp” or Jr. as he was fondly known by his family, was born on September 28, 1951 in Sumter County, Georgia to the late James M. Simpson, Sr. and the late Ollie Mae Laster Simpson. He gave his life to the Lord at an early age and joined the Greater Cedar Spring Baptist Church of Plains, Georgia.

"Simp" was educated in the public schools of Sumter County by attending Eastview Elementary and graduating from Staley High School of Americus, Georgia.   He also attended Georgia Southwestern College and South Georgia Technical School.   From 1976 – 1979, he enlisted in the United States Navy. After his tour of duty, he enlisted into the Navy Reserve.  Simp was employed for 25 years at Mullite Company of America in Andersonville, Georgia. He was a member of the American Legion #558.  It was known by all “Simp was a diehard fan of the San Francisco 49ers and Chicago Bulls.”   He also enjoyed telling his favorite Uncle Oscar’s jokes.

Simp was preceded in death by his parents, James and Ollie Simpson; his grandparents, Deacon R. D. Laster and Rosa Lee Laster Mansfield Laster, Ed and Josephine (Sis.) Simpson; six aunts: Jessie, Mary A. Laster, Flora Monts, Emma Hicks, Johnnie Mae Cooks and Josie Simpson; eight uncles: Curtis, Jose, Marcellous, Jesse, Roosevelt Simpson, Robert and Arthur Laster.   

On May 8, 1993 he married Patricia Harris, and he leaves to cherish his memories three sons: James Moten Simpson, III of Covington, Georgia, Morris and Brandon Williams of Americus, Georgia; grandchildren:  Tredarrian Jakee, Anyah Tre’Mani Simpson of Covington, Georgia, Zaedyn Dismukes of Dothan, Alabama, Caden and Brylan Williams of Valdosta, Georgia, Peyton and Bella Williams of Americus, Georgia;  one devoted and lovely sister,  Mrs. Annie “Sue” (Thomas) Douglas of McDonough, Georgia; two aunts:  Mrs. Roxie Wakefield of Jacksonville, Florida and Mrs. Retha Dean (Lorenza) Thomas of Americus, Georgia; two uncles: Johnny Laster and Frankie (Minister Cloris) Laster of Americus, Georgia;  two great aunts:  Mrs. Susie Mae Hicks and Mrs. Sylvia Mae Hicks of Americus, Georgia; two devoted nephews: Roderick (Tracy) Douglas of Americus, Georgia and Thomas L. (Erika) Douglas of Atlanta, Georgia; great nieces/ nephews:  Kaci, Marquis, Christopher, Tyler and Kyle Douglas; one devoted sister/cousin, Josephine Simpson and one devoted brother/cousin,  Alex Bernard Gant of South Chester, Virginia;  other sister/brother/ cousins: Mary Hudson of Los Angeles, Freda (David) Turner of Windsor, Connecticut, Nannette Banks, Esther Simpson of Americus, Georgia; Several other cousins and friends also survive.

I would like to send my condolences to the family of Mr Simpson.I know losing a love one in death hurts but we can all look forward to the time when the almighty God will do away with all things that causes pain and suffering even death (Rev.21:3,4)I am so sorry for your loss

To the Simpson family, sorry for your loss of someone dear to you. The words we say may not completely take away your grief. The Bible gives us a promise at 1 Thessalonians 4:13 you can find real hope and strength to keep going. My deepest condolences.

(2 Corinthians 1:3,4) May the memories shared with "Simp" be a comfort to you now and in the days ahead.  Sorry for your loss.

I am sorry to learn that "Simp" has passed. I heard he had been ill but was hoping in time he would get better. May the family find strength and comfort from each other and the Almighty God to endure the days ahead. Classmate 1969 Staley High
