Funeral services for Ms. Gladys Rena Felton will be held on Sunday, February 12, 2017 at 2:00 at Harrison Chapel Baptist Church in Montezuma, Georgia with Pastor Alfred Biggs officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Gladys Rena Felton, affectionately called “Moosie” was born on April 27, 1965 in Montezuma, Georgia to Ms. Florie Felton and the late Alonzo Woolfork. Moosie enjoyed going to school. She attended Taylor DD Service Center.  She also enjoyed watching television. Her favorite shows were Family Feud, Property Brothers and other Home Improvement Shows. Moosie loved to dress up, spin around and model her outfits for her family and friends. She loved people, especially babies. Moosie had a beautiful spirit and held a special place in the hearts of all her family and friends. Moosie passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 8, 2017 at Navicent Health Hospital in Macon, Georgia. She was preceded in death by her step-mother, Inez Woolfork, two brothers: Lonnie Woolfork and Tony Felton.

‘Moosie” will be lovingly remembered by her mother, Ms. Florie Felton of Montezuma, Georgia; her sisters and brothers: Patricia Ann Felton, Michael (Barbara) Felton, Darron Felton, Sharon (Jody) Beal, Audrey Woolfork and Amillia (Eric) Woolfork all of Montezuma, Georgia, Tammy Hill (Ebony Brown) of Atlanta, Georgia, Lisa (Arney) Bryant of Vienna, Georgia, Jerome (Trina) Felton of Americus, Georgia, Reginald (Brenda) Thomas and Dennis (Betty) Thomas of Connecticut; aunts and uncles: John (Daisy) Felton, Earl Woolfork, Marie Woolfork and Joann Woolfork of Montezuma, Georgia, Jewel Lee Woolfork, Sr. of Immokalee, Florida, Roosevelt (Yvonne) Woolfork of Orlando, Florida, Eddie (Michelle) Woolfork of Canton, Michigan, Geneva (Elder James) Carter of Ocilla, Georgia and Molly Reid of Warner Robins, Georgia; special friends: Rosa Baldwin, Lillie Brown, Danae Simmons, and The Flint River Dietary Department; a host of cousins, other loving relatives and friends.

Funeral services for Mr. James Augustus Byrom, Sr. affectionately known as “Mr. B” will be held on Wednesday, February 1, 2017 at 11:00 A.M. at the New Hope Baptist Church in Montezuma, Georgia with Pastor Allen Waters officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

On April 2, 1936, Augustus and Ellen West Byrom were blessed with their firstborn child, James Augustus Byrom, Sr.  He was born in Macon County, Georgia. At an early age, he confessed Jesus Christ and joined the New Hope Baptist Church, where he served until his death.  James sang in the New Hope Baptist Church Adult Choir for many years.

James received his high school education at Ballard-Hudson High School, Macon, Georgia.   He furthered his education, graduating from the college that he truly loved and supported — The Fort Valley State College. James graduated with a degree in Agricultural Education.

In 1960, he married the former Dorothy Ann “Dee Dee” Davis.  This union was blessed with four sons, Darryl Maurice, James Augustus, Jr., Robert Elliott and Marcus Keith.  Until her death in 1994, they shared many loving years together.  In 2000, he married the former Mary Mays. 

James began his employment at Pabst Brewery in Perry, Georgia.  At the time of his retirement in 1988, he was the plant’s Packing Superintendent. After his retirement from Pabst Brewery, he    began his teaching career with the Sumter County School System, Americus, Georgia.  James taught Agricultural Education at Sumter County High School for twenty years, retiring in 2008.

James continued to stay busy after his retirement. He worked part-time at the Montezuma Motor Company as a car salesman.  He was member of the Red Devils Motorcycle Club.  In 2008, he was elected as the District 5 representative on the Macon County Board of Education.  He proudly served eight years as a board member, attending his last meeting in December 2016.  James proudly served as the General Manager at West’s Mortuary, a  family business that he truly loved. James was a proud member of the Lamda Lamda Lamda Chapter of Omega Psi Phi. He served his fraternity well by serving as the chapter’s financial secretary.

Having a genuine love for The Fort Valley State University, he was a member of the Macon County Alumni Chapter of The Fort Valley State University.  Tailgating in “The Valley” brought him so much excitement.  He was also a dedicated supporter of the Dawg Pound, a community-based organization that supports the Macon County High School Bulldogs. James was a dependable member of the Macon County community and was always helping those who needed him. On Thursday, January 26, 2017, his earthly walk came to a peaceful end while a patient at the Houston County Healthcare Center in Warner Robins, Georgia.  His parents, his siblings, Julius Byrom and Thomas Jerome Byrom and his son, Wendell Neal, preceded him in death.

Precious memories of his life will forever live on in the hearts of his children: Darryl Maurice Byrom (Amanda), Montezuma, Georgia, James Augustus “Jimmy” Byrom, Jr. (Lula), Montezuma, Georgia, Robert Elliott “Bobby” Byrom (Crystal), Commerce, Georgia, Marcus Keith Byrom (Shalonda), Kennesaw, Georgia, Angela Shelley, Montezuma, Georgia and Curtis Caldwell,   Montezuma, Georgia; two grandchildren with whom he was instrumental in their upbringing, Nicholas Byrom and Alexandria Byrom; his grandchildren Sarah Byrom, Christian Byrom, Joseph Byrom, Briana Byrom, Kennedy Byrom, Tywonn Shelley, Alisha Shelley, Curtis Caldwell, Jr., Christopher Caldwell, Dekeldric Felton, Kera Caldwell and Marissa Caldwell; six great-grandchildren; his sister and brother-in-law: Bessie and   Jessie Warren, Montezuma, GA; his uncle, Frederick West, Jackson, Georgia; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Reverend Lem Wright (Marie), Smithville, Georgia, Dorothy Sneed (Willie), Desoto, Georgia, Lonnie Wight, Cobb, Georgia, Virginia Chatmon (Archie), Albany, Georgia, Ronnie Wright, DeSoto, Georgia, Bajor Wright, DeSoto, Georgia, Jeremiah Carter (Betty), Brown Mills, New Jersey, Lewis Gene Carter (Constance), Miami Florida and Clinton Williams, Miami, Florida; a host of nieces, nephews, special cousins and many    devoted friends.

Funeral services for Mr. Samuel Tyner affectionately known as "Pop" of Crawley Street Americus, Georgia will be held on Friday, January 20, 2017 at 1:00 at Allen Chapel AME Church where Rev. Curtis Frazier is the pastor and Rev. Robert Angrish will serve as the eulogist.  Burial will follow at the Eastview Cemetery.

Mr. Samuel Tyner was born on February 6, 1953 in Sumter County, Georgia to the late Willie Lee Tyner and the late Mrs. Nancy Mack Tyner. “Pop” was a hardworking and loving family man who will be missed by many. Mr. Tyner died on Thursday, January 12, 2017 at his home.

He is survived by his wife Ruby Tyner of Americus, Georgia; his loving children: Samuel Tyner, Jr, Jeffery (Lakeshia) Tyner, Bryant Devans Tyner, Montravis Deon Tyner, Ms. Keneisha Lacole Tyner, Don C. Smith and Christopher Bernard Smith; two loving sisters: Ms. Carolyn (Robert) Bateman and Ms. Ella G. Tyner; one devoted brother, Eddie (Georgia) Tyner; his in-laws: Mrs. Betty Smith, Ms. Rose (Henry) Pevy, Henry (Willie) Smith, Dennis (Anita) Smith all of Americus, Georgia; twenty grandchildren, one great grandchild and a host of other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services for Mr. Waldo Emmerson White of Americus, Georgia will be held on Tuesday, January 3, 2017 at 11:00 A.M. at the Friendship Missionary Baptist Church on Cotton Avenue in Americus, Georgia with Bishop Melvin McCluster officiating. Burial will follow at the Eastview Cemetery.

Like the rushing waters that calm the soul and the sound gives music to the ear, so was the life of Waldo Emmerson White. Waldo was born in Alabama to the late Alberta Johnson White on July 18, 1942. One brother, Johnny Lee White preceded him in death.  Waldo was a 1960 graduate of Sumter High School. He enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1960 and was honorably discharged in 1968.  During his tenure in the Air Force he received many award, ribbons, and medals, which included Air Force Good Conduct Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal and National Defense Service Medal. Mr. White was employed with BF Goodrich for a number of years and he retired from IMC after 20 years of service.  He was a faithful member of The Friendship Missionary Baptist Church of Americus, GA., and also the American Legion Post 558.

Fond memories will live on in the lives of his family, which include his devoted companion of 40 years, Mary Belle Lucas; one son, Mr. Robert Lucas Jr. (Darlene) of Los Angeles, CA; one daughter, Ms. Latoya Michelle Lucas (Earl) of Athens, GA; a grandson raised as his own, Mr. Dominique D’Anthony Muff, Americus, GA; a devoted grandson Mr. Divennci Deron Lucas, Stanford, CA., Mr. Julian Andre’ Willis and Mr. Lucasi Lucas of Los Angeles, five granddaughters: Ms. Porscha Tyson, Americus, GA, Ms Mone’ Patrice Ross, Atlanta, GA, Ms. Laquita Jackson, Americus, GA, and Destiny Lucas, Harmony Lucas of Maryland; thirteen great grandchildren, three devoted:  Niheuyen Champion, Ka’phario Champion and Dominique McKinley Muff all of Americus, GA; one sister-in-Law, Mrs. Elainae Goggins (Larry), Americus, GA; five brothers-in-law; Mr. Forrest Hill, Mr. Horace Hill, Mr. Bobby Hightower, Mr. Elbert Hightower and Mr. Kenneth Hightower all of Americus GA; devoted cousins: Dr. Waldo Johnson, Jr. Chicago, IL, Mr. James Westbrooks, Ft. Mr. Dacy Demond Robinson was born in Dawson, Georgia on September 8, 1977 to Mrs. Nancy Robinson and the late Kirk Robinson. He was educated in the Dougherty County School System. Dacy died on Sunday, December 25, 2016 in Albany, GA

He leaves to morn his passing his sons Dacy Robinson, Jr. and Dashun Robinson; one granddaughter, Nodah Ahmyrika Robinson; his mother, Nancy Robinson of Smithville, GA four brothers: Fred Robinson, Michael Robinson, Huron Robinson and Centari Robinson; grandparents: Mrs. Izola West and Luscious Orange; twelve aunts: Doris Harris, Tracy Green and Viola West all of Smithville, Georgia, Beverly Dingle, Plains, Georgia, Shelia Smith, Gretel Smith, both of Smithville, Georgia, Vaturnia Ingram, Americus, Georgia, Evette Johnson, Vanessa Chambers, Janice Bouyer, Nanette Orange and Patricia Hodges, all of Miami, Florida; five uncles:Curtis West, Hinesville, Georgia and Gregory West, Americus, GA, Terrance Green, William Bryant and Charles Bryant all of Smithville, Georgia; one great aunt, Virginia Carter. Funeral services for Mr. Jimmy Lee Little of Americus, Georgia will be held on Saturday, December 24, 2016 at 11:30 A.M. at the Friendship Missionary Baptist Church with Bishop Melvin McCluster officiating. Burial will follow at Freeman Hill Cemetery in Andersonville, Georgia.

Mr. Jimmy Lee Little was born on September 26, 1946 in Sumter County, Georgia to the late Mrs. Eula Mae Small Sheffield and the late McArthur Little.  Mr. Little attended Westside Elementary School and A.S. Staley High School.  He joined the Household of Faith Ministry. He was employed by Hickory Spring as a truck driver for over 20 years. After he retired, he volunteered at Abby’s Learn-N-Play Child Development Center.  Mr. Little was loved by all the children in his care.  He was a well-known resident of Sumter County and will be missed by all who knew and loved him. 

Mr. Little was preceded in death by a loving wife, Mrs. Mattie Hill; his twin sister, Mrs. Ruby Lee Bivins; brother in law, Robert Lee Bivins; sisters, Ms. Anna Clyde Wright and Mary A Hughes; brother, McArthur  Little; He was called to rest on December 17, 2016.

He leaves to cherish his memories his son Lakendrick Davis (Friend-Leondrea Faison) of Americus, GA;  four grandchildren: Lakendrica and Leigha Davis, Jaylin Walton, Jayden Hill and Khalisa Walters; step-mother, Mrs. Lena Little of Americus, GA; step children: Laquanda and Travis Hill both of Americus, GA, Cynthia, Patricia, Lois, Van, Gregory, Willie Brown and Panky Robie-Hunt of Dublin, GA;  one adopted God child Gene Jackson of Dublin, GA; three sisters: Ms. Mamie Sampson, Ms. Carmen Mansfield and Mrs. Harriett L. (Dwayne) Holmes all of Americus, GA; two brothers: Joseph Small of Plains, GA and James S. Little of Americus, GA; four sisters-in-law: Edna Hayes (Jessie), Catherine Hill, both of Atlanta, GA, Ruby Thomas of Americus, GA and Irene Reddick (Willie) of Blakely, GA; three brothers-in-law:  Alphonso Hill, Bernard Hill and Charlie Hill all of Andersonville, GA;  ten loving step grandchildren, 13 great step grandchildren, and three great great step grandchildren. A host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends including devoted nieces Abbis and Patricia Bivins; a devoted friend Lois Little and the entire staff of Chevron #2 also survive.

A Memorial service for Mrs. Georgia Knighton of Tallahassee, Florida will be held on Tuesday, December 6, 2016 at 1:30 P.M. at Greater Fountain Chapel A.M.E Church located at 821 Eugenia Street, Tallahassee, Florida.

Mrs. Georgia Knighton was born on January 25, 1928 in Terrell County, Georgia to the late Bro. Dave and Luella Albritten. She attended the public schools of Terrell County, Georgia. She was married to the late Lloyd Willis Knighton, and to that union was born one daughter, the late Earlene Cynthia Knighton. Sis. Georgia Knighton departed this life on Monday, November 28, 2016 at Eden Springs Nursing Home, in Crawfordville, Florida. 

Funeral services for Veteran Joe Brown of Americus, Georgia will be held on Thursday, December 1, 2016 at 11:00 A.M. at the Lebanon Baptist Church in Plains, Georgia with Pastor Hosie Waters officiating. Burial will follow at the Andersonville National Cemetery.

Veteran Joe Brown was born March 9, 1936 in Andersonville, Georgia to the parentage of the late Mr. Johnnie Willie Brown and the late Mrs. Willie Mae Davis Brown Plair.

He attended the Sumter County School System and later enlisted in the United States Army where he served his country from June 24, 1954 to June 21, 1957. He received National Defense Service Medal and Army Occupation Medal (Germany). Joe received an Honorable Discharge from the Armed Forces of the United States of America on May 31, 1962. Joe was employed by Sumter (Studstill) County Livestock and Reeves Construction Company.

At an early age he joined the Friendship Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Reverend Daniel Thomas. Joe moved to the Douglas Circle Community and he became affiliated with Praise, Preach and Deliverance Ministries under the leadership of the late Pastor Vernell Carter. Upon moving to the Lillian Carter Health and Rehabilitation Center he joined Lebanon Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend Hosie Waters.                                      

He was preceded in death by his grandfathers: Mr. Ely Brown and Mr. Will Davis; grandmothers: Mrs. Laura Wilkerson Brown, Mrs. Mattie Snipes Murray Davis Kelly Hill. Joe transitioned peacefully at the Phoebe-Sumter Medical Center in Americus, Georgia on Saturday, November 26, 2016 surrounded by his family.

He is survived by one son, Shelby Ray Brown of Atlanta, Georgia; one daughter, Audrey Davis of Brooklyn, New York; one grandson, Donte Brown; two granddaughters: Sherneka Brown and Chesha (Lakieza) Simon-Richardson; two great grandchildren: Yarwin Brown and Jordan Lowe; two sisters: Mrs. Mary Alice Caldwell of Miami, Florida and Ms. Robin Plair Wiley of Plains, Georgia; one brother-in-law, James Bowman Wiley, Jr. of Americus, Georgia; one nephew, James Bowman Wiley, III; six great nephews: Christian Tyler Wiley of Auburn, Alabama, Caleb James Wiley of Albany, Georgia, Jordan Eli'sha Wiley, Kaicen Aamir Wiley, Trontavious Deon Brown and Travontavious Leon Brown of Americus, Georgia; devoted cousins: Josephine (Albert) Cooper of Americus, Georgia, Mattie (Amos) Edge of Hope Hull, Alabama, Dorothy Melvin Daniels of Detroit, Michigan, and Artice Melvin of Atlanta, Georgia. Several other devoted relatives and friends survive the late Veteran Joe Brown.

Funeral services for Mr. Dale “Catfish” Morgan of Plains, Georgia will be held on Saturday, November 26, 2016 at 11:00 A.M. at the St. John A.M.E. Church in Plains, Georgia with Pastor Shirley Strawter officiating. Burial will follow at the Lebanon Cemetery.

Mr. Dale Morgan affectionately known as “Catfish” was born in Sumter County, Georgia on September 17, 1956 to the parentage of the late Fleeola Morgan. At an early age he joined the St. John AME Church of Plains Georgia where he served faithfully as a Steward.  He was educated in the Public Schools of Sumter County. Dale was a devoted worker at Plains Peanuts for over 10 years until his health failed.  He was preceded in death by his mother: Fleeola Morgan, brother, Kemp Howard and longtime companion Ms. Lois Denise Hollis. Dale died peacefully on Monday, November 21, 2016 at the Lillian Carter Nursing Home in Plains, Georgia.

He leaves to mourn his passing his father William Jackson of Plains, Georgia; his daughter, Keayascha Hollis; stepson, Shaquantus Hollis both of Plains, Georgia, five sisters: Janice Hill, Barbara Morgan, Faye Jackson all of Plains, Georgia, Renea Mann of Americus, Georgia, and Doreatha Morgan of Manhattan, New York; two aunts: Pamela Angry of Americus, Georgia and Janice Flowers of Delray Florida; four sisters-in-law: Edna Carter, Kathy (Emerson) Cross of Plains Georgia, Janice Foster and Constance Hollis of Americus, Georgia; devoted nieces: Kiwante Monique Morgan, Shaquinna Mumford and Qwahrkeassa Hollis; devoted friends: Lonnie and Mable Streeter. A host of nieces, nephews, friends and other relatives also survive.
