The Funeral Service for Gratt Dukes will be held Monday, January 7, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of West’s Mortuary, 731 N Lee Street, Americus, Georgia with Minister Willie James Jackson officiating.

Gratt Dukes, affectionately known as Buck, was born on October 3, 1941 in Hepzibah, Georgia. Gratt was reared in Broward County, Florida where he spent most of his young adult life. Buck has always been a quiet jokester. He enjoyed being a daring, venturesome person.

Buck met and married Betty Derico, and to this union three children were born. During his mature adult life, he adventurously migrated to New Jersey where he stayed until his visit to Georgia in 2005. Upon his visit to Georgia, he encountered life changing experiences and decided to make Georgia his permanent residence. While living in Georgia, he met a host of new faces who became long-time roommates and friends. The Lord called Buck home on January 1, 2019. He was preceded in death by his parents, Gratt and Julia Dukes and his older brother, Mark Dukes.

Gratt has gone, but he’s not forgotten.  Left to mourn his precious life are three children: LaGunita Dukes of Pompano Beach, Florida, LaWarren Dukes (Elizabeth) of Tiffin, Ohio and LaQuesta Samuel (RenDale) of Columbia, South Carolina; eight grandchildren: Emerald, Xavier, LaWarren Jr., Shyanna, Renaya, ShaDaria, Renahje and Sade; five sisters: Mattie Walker of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, Annie Rozier of Pompano Beach, Florida, Martha Blue of Lauderhill, Florida, Julia Andrews (William) of Americus, Georgia and Connie Dukes of Atlanta, Georgia; one sister-in-law, Allie Mae Dukes of Sunrise, Florida; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and loving friends.
