Funeral services for Mr. Robert Quincy Smalls age 99 of Americus, GA will be held on Thursday, July 27, 2017 at 10:30 A.M. in the Chapel of West’s Mortuary in Americus, GA with Rev. Tommie Jordan officiating. Burial will follow at Andersonville National Cemetery.

Mr. Robert Quincy Smalls was born on July 17, 1918 on Cherokee Plantation in Yemassee, SC to the late Mr. Edward White and the late Mrs. Geneva Smalls-White. Mr. Smalls was educated in the public schools of South Carolina and began working on Cherokee Plantation at an early age. He served in the U.S. Military as a Marine and was honorably discharged on November 5, 1945. Mr. Smalls moved to Patterson, New Jersey and worked for the Lackawanna Railroad in Jersey City, NJ. After a long and beautiful life, Mr. Smalls passed away peacefully at his residence on Saturday, July 22, 2017 surrounded by his loved ones. He was preceded in death by his parents, his son Edward Q. Wiley and a grandson Kenneth J. Wiley.

He leaves to cherish his legacy, his devoted wife Mrs. Emma Smalls of Americus, GA; his sister, Elizabeth Kirkland of Savannah, GA, his daughter Josephine Murray of Yernassee, SC; a grandson Reggie Murray of Yemassee, SC; three granddaughters: Kathleen Wiley of Port Wentworth, GA, Melissa Wiley of Virginia Beach, VA and Keisha Murray of Yemassee, SC; his God-daughter, Tiffany Wilbon 'of Americus, GA; a special nephew Clyde Smalls of Yemassee, SC, a devoted friend and neighbor, Zachary Draines of Americus, GA and a host of nieces; nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.

Funeral services for Mr. Roosevelt Wilborn of Lambert Street, Americus, Georgia will be held Saturday, July 29, 2017 at 10:00 A.M. in the Chapel of West's Mortuary in Americus, Georgia with Rev. George F. Monts officiating. Burial will follow at Eastview Cemetery.

Roosevelt Wilborn, son of the late James Wilborn and the late Mamie Mae Rush Wilborn was born on June 4, 1957 in Americus, Georgia. “Roach” as he was affectionately called, enjoyed doing carpentry work and he loved sports, especially the Atlanta Falcons. He passed away on Thursday, July 20, 2017. Preceding him in death were two sisters:Pearlie Longstreet and Ann Wilborn, a daughter, Kyanna Wilborn and a brother Charlie Rush.

Left to cherish his memory is his son, Jeremy Boone of Americus, Georgia; six brothers: James Wilborn, Jerome Wilborn, Willie James Wilborn, Leon Wilborn, Robert Lee Wilborn and Henry Lee Wilborn all of Americus, Georgia; four sisters: Ms. Margie Ann Wilborn, Ms. Barbara Ann Wilborn, Mrs. Lois Davis and Ms. Shirley Ann Wilborn all of Americus, Georgia; four aunts: Mrs. Shirley (Eddie) Robinson of Vero Beach, Florida, Mrs. Laverne (John) Williams of Desota, Georgia, Mrs. Eula (James) Merritt of Americus, Georgia and Ms. Martha (Randy) King of Cordele, Georgia  and a devoted aunt Ms. Edith McKnight of Americus, Georgia; two uncles: Cleveland Rush, Jr and Sander Rush both of Vero Beach, Florida; one grandchild, a host of nieces, nephews, including two devoted nieces: Terriann Sims (Brandon) and Latricia Wilborn both of Americus, Georgia. Several other relatives and friends also survive.

Mrs. Doris Bacon Colbert was born February 3, 1954 to the late Mr. Henry R. Bacon and the late Mrs. Estella Brown Bacon. She attended school at Matawan High School and completed two years of college. Mrs. Colbert passed away on July 14, 2017 at Phoebe Sumter Hospital in Americus, Georgia.

She leaves to mourn her passing, her loving husband, Starling Colbert of Americus, Georgia; two sisters: Ms. Leatha Bacon Dortch of Decatur, Georgia and Ms. Bessie Bacon of Cliffwood Beach, New Jersey; three brothers: DeWitt (Jackie) Bacon of Red Bank, New Jersey, Aubrey (Sylvia) Bacon of Jacksonville, Florida and Ivory (Jeannine) Bacon of Decatur, Georgia; mother-in-law, Leola Mae Colbert of Preston, Georgia; three brothers-in-law: Edward Colbert, Oswald Colbert and Tyrone Colbert; eight nephews, five nieces, a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services for Mr. Willie James “Ricky” Solomon of Montezuma, Georgia will be held on Monday, July 17, 2017 at 12:00 Noon at Piney Grove Baptist Church, Montezuma, Georgia. Burial will follow at Andersonville National Cemetery.

Mr. Willie James Solomon, better known as “Ricky” was born February 27, 1951 in Macon County, Georgia to Ms. Dorothy Nell Solomon and the late Earl Jessie Joseph. Ricky grew up in Montezuma and attended the public schools of the county. He was a member of the D.F. Douglass High School class of 1970. After high school, he served his country honorably in the United States Army. Mr. Solomon was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with two Bronze Service Stars and the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal. Ricky passed away on July 12, 2017 at his residence. One daughter, Tammy Witchard, preceded him in death.

Left to cherish his memories are his mother, Dorothy N. Solomon of Montezuma, Georgia; three daughters: Lawanda Witchard of Hartford, Connecticut, Denesha Solomon and Charlene Carr both of Montezuma, Georgia; his fatherly love also extended to the children of the late Evelyn Witchard and the children of his current companion, Mae Eula Walker; five siblings: Loisteen S. Sparks (Willie) of Indianapolis, Indiana, Bennie R. Solomon of Fort Valley, Georgia, Otis L. Solomon of       Prattville, Alabama, Kowetta Solomon and Lessie Solomon both of Montezuma, Georgia; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; six aunts: Peggy Hankerson (James) of Oglethorpe, Georgia, Lillie B. Solomon, Marie Jackson and Mildred Frederick all of Montezuma, Georgia, Jimmie L. Alexander of Lawton, Oklahoma and Estella Crawford of Killeen, Texas; several nieces, nephews, and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services for Mr. Willie Clarence Ware Sr. will be held on Saturday, July,15, 2017 at 11:00 A.M. at Mt. Salem Baptist Church with Rev. George F. Monts officiating. Burial will follow at Hill Cemetery.

Mr. Willie Clarence Ware Sr. known as “Bo Pete” was born in Sumter County GA on August 8, 1951 to the parentage of the late Mrs. Ossie Lee Dodson Little and the late Mr. Sam Sanford.  He received his education at Westside Elementary and graduated from Plains High School in 1973.  He was employed at Koinonia Farms.  At an early age Willie joined the Mitchell Grove Baptist Church. He was united in holy matrimony to Jane Terry Ware and to this union three children were born. He is preceded in death by two sisters.  Willie passed away on July 8, 2017 in Columbus, Ohio.

He leaves to mourn his passing, his wife of 31 years Mrs. Jane Terry Ware; his children: Willie K. (Jasmine) Ware, Stacey D. Ware and Willie C. Ware Jr. all of Albany, GA, Stefanie (Timmie) Hollis, Sheena Ware both of Americus, GA, Jonathan Ware and Joshua Ware of Norcross, GA; six brothers: John David Ware, Milton Little Sr., Nathaniel (Shirley) Sanford, Cornelius (Brenda) Luster of Americus, GA, John (Irene) Little, Melvin (Bertha) Little of Plains, GA; four sisters: Clara Luster of Americus, GA, Marie (Jimmy) Thomas of Rochester, NY. Emma Marks and Leila Clarke of Columbus, GA; one uncle, James Arthur Dodson of Gainesville, FL; two brothers-in-law: George (Sally) Terry and James (Toni) Terry Jr. of Laurelville, OH; three sisters-in-law; Amy (James) Terry of Columbus, Ohio, Roseanna Terry of Grove City, Ohio and Shelia (Keith) James of Port Richie, FL; seven grandchildren: Derek Banks, Robtavious Wilborn, Timelia Hollis, Shaniya Ware, Kaylen Hayes, Jaylah Hayes and Unique Spence; nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends including a devoted niece Ms. Geraldine Ware and a devoted cousin, Mr. Marvin Chambers of Chicago.

Tara was born Oct 2, 1971 in Vienna, Georgia, the only daughter of the late Clinton Aldridge, Sr. & the late Fannie Walker Brown. 

She leaves to Cherish her memories her stepfather, Mr. William Brown of Oglethorpe, Georgia; five brothers: Rev. Clinton D. Aldridge, Jr.(Patsy) of Americus, Georgia, Joe Edward Aldridge of Perry, Georgia, Timothy Aldridge of Warner Robins, Georgia,  Evokeyo Aldridge of Cordele, Georgia and Thyron Taylor-Brown of Lake City, Florida; a devoted friend, Wanda McNeil; eight aunts; seven uncles; seven nieces; two nephews; two sisters-in-law and one brother-in-law.   Several other relatives and friends also survive

Mr. Otis Alford was born January 1, 1939 in Americus, Georgia to the late Mr. Mack Alford Sr. and the late Mrs. Lillie B. Burnette Alford.  Otis was educated in the Public Schools of Sumter County. He loved the outdoors. He loved going fishing, hunting and working in the yard. He also loved to cook.  Otis went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday July 5, 2017 at 6:20 in the morning.

He leaves to cherish his memories a loving companion of over thirty years, Ms. Annie Boone of Americus, GA; three sons: Jeremy Boone, Jeffery (Carrie) Boone, and Troy Boone, all of Americus, GA; five daughters: Brianna, Diana, Mae, Sarah and Suzzette all of Americus, GA; two sisters: Bessie Alford of Leslie, GA and Ossie James of Chipley, FL; one brother, Mack Alford Jr. (Martha) of Americus, GA; one brother-in-law, Rev. Plezy L. Nelson of Leslie, GA; seventeen grandchildren, forty great grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends also survive.

Funeral services for Mrs. Georgia Lee Mitchell affectionately known as "Red" of Americus, Georgia will be held on Saturday, July 8, 2017 at 11:00 A.M. at the Bethlehem Baptist Church in Plains, Georgia. Burial will follow at the Bethlehem Cemetery

Ms. Georgia Lee Mitchell, was born on February 11, 1942 in Sumter County, Georgia to the late L. W. “Bud” Sims and the late Mary Gladys Stewart Sims, the third child of 15 siblings. She was educated in the public Schools of Sumter County.  “Red” was employed as a cook for many years. 

Georgia transitioned on Monday, July 3, 2017 at Phoebe Sumter Medical Center in Americus, GA.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by  four siblings: Charlie Sims, Annie Ruth Harvey, Catherine Poole and Deborah Ann Sims.

She leaves to mourn her passing one devoted daughter, Carolyn (Willie) Johnson; two devoted sons: Wilbert Mitchell Jr., Eric (and friend Sherry) Mitchell; three grandchildren: Tonya Mitchell, Tianna Mitchell all of Americus, Ga. and Krystalynne Nimmons of Columbus, GA; seven great grandchildren; Christopher (and friend Kendr Garry, Monique Garry, LyKeitia Mithell, Antavius Mitchell and Zariyah Mitchell all of Americus, GA and Nicole Termolen, stationed in Germany; one great great grandson, Master Bryant Edge; three sisters: Minnie Lee Davis, Martha Seay and Ernestine Rogers all of Americus, GA; four brothers: Bobby L. Sims, Harold Sims Sr., Robert  L. Sims all of Americus, GA and McArthur Edwards of Portland, Oregon; one devoted aunt, Martha Edwards of Smithville, GA; two devoted uncles: Sammy Stewart of Miami, Florida and Lynwood Stewart of Americus, GA; four devoted friends Ms. Francis, Roger, Annie Ruth and Jake Sims. Funeral services for Mr. Joe Louis Bruce Sr. of Mayo Street Americus, Georgia will be held on Friday, July 7, 2017 at 11:00 A.M. at the Williams Rd Church of Christ. Burial will follow at Staley Memorial Gardens.

Mr. Joe Louis Bruce Sr. was born on May 13, 1942 in Americus Georgia to the late Mr. and Mrs. Charlie Bruce Sr. He received his education in the Sumter County School System in Americus Georgia. He was a faithful member of Eastview Church of Christ, where he served on the Brother Board. He was joined in Holy matrimony to Mrs. Matherlene Fredrick Bruce for 53 years and to this union five children were born. Joe worked for Seaboard Coastline Railroad for 42 years. After he retired he worked for the Sumter County Sheriff Department as a detail officer on weekends. Not being a stranger to hard work he started cutting grass and working his garden for his pleasure. Joe was always helping and reaching out to the community that he loved. He was preceded in death by a son Joe Louis Bruce Jr. and two sisters: Ms. Mattie Bagley and Ms. Omie Lee Clemons. Joe passed away peacefully on Monday, July 3, 2017 at the Magnolia Manor Nursing Center in Americus, Georgia.

He is survived by a very loving and devoted wife Mrs. Matherlene Bruce of Americus, Georgia; three daughters: Mrs. Gwenda (Joseph) Bruce Daniels, Americus, Georgia, Ms. Virginia Bruce, and Ms. Indee Bruce of Americus Georgia; two sons: Mr. Warren (Rita) Bruce and Mr. Desi (Latoya) Tisdol of Rochell, Georgia; one sister, Ms. Pearlie Mae Bruce of Jonesboro, Georgia; three brothers: Mr. Charlie W. Bruce Jr., Pahokee Florida, Mr. John (Tommie) Bruce Sr. and Walt  (Martha K.) Bruce both of Americus, Georgia; one daughter-in-law Nancy Bruce of Americus, Georgia; one brother-in-law, Henry (Gloria) Fredrick of Macon, Georgia; four sisters-in-law: Ms. Annie Ruth Mann, Ms. Della Lewis, and Mrs. Mary A. Lewis of Americus, Georgia and Mrs. Mary W. Pless, Macon, Georgia; A devoted friend Wayne Perkins of Americus, Georgia; fifteen grandchildren and one great grandchild, Alayna Bruce and a host of nieces, nephews and other.

A Time to be Born: Sister Mary Alice Robinson-Seymore was born to the late Mr. Eddie and Mrs. Mary Brinson-Robinson in Stewart County, Georgia on September 12, 1926.

 

A Time to Serve: Mary Alice joined Mt. Zion Primitive Baptist Church in 1983 under the late Elder J.H. Daniel and continued to serve under the leadership of Elder Wonzie Gardner until her death.

 

A Time for Education: Mary Alice was educated and attended the pubic schools in Stewart County.

 

A Time to be United: Mary Alice was united in Holy Matrimony before God to the late Johnny Seymore, Sr. in 1955.

 

A Time for Departing Siblings: Ocree Robinson, Earnest Robinson, Edward (E.C.) Robinson, and Richmond Robinson.

 

A Time to Die: Mary Alice was released from her earthly body on Saturday, July 1, 2017 at 3:00 p.m. at Southwest Georgia Regional Medical Center in Cuthbert, Georgia.

 

A Time to Cherish Her Memories: She leaves to cherish her memories four devoted sisters: Eddie B.
