Mr. Frederick West

Funeral services for Mr. Frederick West of Jackson Georgia will be held on Tuesday, January 30, 2018 at 1:00 at Zion Missionary Baptist Church in Jackson.

Frederick Will West was born November 9, 1926 in Montezuma, Georgia.  He grew up with his parents, Will “Hope” West and Bessie Engram West and nine siblings, Earl West, Mary West Sutton, Robert West, Ellen West Byrom, Beatrice West, Willie Mae West, Esther West Ragin, Clovis “C.W.” West, and Edgar West who all preceded him in death. 

At the age of 10, under the Christian education tutelage of his Aunt Martha, he cited these words – “I believe in the Lord because he has forgiven me for all my sins.  I want to join the church and be baptized and live in the church until I die.”  He then joined the New Hope Baptist Church, Montezuma.

Frederick graduated from Flint River Farms School in Montezuma; and after graduation, he attended Savannah State College.  He later transferred to Fort Valley State College where he received his BS degree.  He taught at Flint River Farms School for one year before he was drafted into the United States Army.  He completed two tours, serving in the Korean War.  After the last tour, he began his career at Robins Air Force Base in Warner Robins, Georgia.  For 40 dedicated years, he worked as an Inventory Control Specialist. 

On November 13, 1965, he married his college sweetheart, Gwendolyn Barber West.  They celebrated their 49th wedding anniversary, shortly before her death in 2014. After his marriage to Gwendolyn, he joined Zion Missionary Baptist Church in Jackson, Georgia, where he faithfully served on the Senior Usher Board until his health began to fail him.

Frederick is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Reverend Dr. Larry (Gwendolyn) West, Laurel, Maryland; his grandsons: Sean (Vonda) West, Conyers, Georgia; Brian (Hanne) West, Porsgrunn, Norway; three great-grandsons: Christien West, Landen West and Liam West; his first-generation nieces and nephews Slaughter James Crockett, Atlanta, Georgia; Gwendolyn Priscilla Dixon, Atlanta, Georgia; Linda (Sonny) McCoy, Jacksonville, Florida;  Thelma Denise West Montezuma, Georgia; Robert Eric West, Americus, Georgia, Bessie (Jessie) Warren, Montezuma, Georgia; Gerald West, Perry, Georgia; Yolanda (Jerome) Kendrick, Oglethorpe, Georgia; Tonya (Quentin) Garnes, Montezuma, Georgia; Ann (Gerry) Harris, Montezuma, Georgia; and Tony Brown, Perry, Georgia; four generations of other nieces and nephews, including Henny Oliver Houben, Richard Houben, Brian Houben, Kevin Houben and Mike Houben, Holland, The Netherlands; special cousins; and devoted caregivers and friends, Willie Grier and Charles and Lucille Childs McElhaney and family, Jackson, Georgia.  Our family will be forever grateful to the staffs of Encompass Home Health, Thomaston, Georgia; Grove Park Davita Dialysis Center, Jackson, Georgia; and Eternal Hope Hospice, Griffin, Georgia.

Those who knew him and knew him best, affectionately call him “Uncle Fed,” “Uncle Fred” or “Hoss” and enjoyed being around him for his giving nature, his fun personality and love of life. The memories of the “Coolest Cat In A Cadillac” will remain with us forever.”

Mrs. Betty Dantes

Funeral Services for Mrs. Betty McDonald Dantes of Bonaire, Georgia will be held on Friday, January 26, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at New Hope Baptist Church, Montezuma, Georgia. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

Betty Mae McDonald Dantes was born on February 4, 1948 in Montezuma, Georgia to  proud parents Jesse and Ineze McDonald. Betty attended D. F. Douglas High School where she graduated with the class of 1966.  She received her degree in Education from Fort Valley State College.  She worked as an outstanding educator for over 30 years. After many years of dedicated service, she retired from Chatham County Public Schools in Savannah, Georgia. Betty loved sewing, trying new recipes, doing puzzles and most of all spending time with family.

Betty was called home on January 22, 2018.  She was preceded in death by her mother, father and two siblings.  Precious memories will forever remain with her loving family which includes her husband of over forty years, Augustin Dantes, Sr.; four children: Mauricia (El-Roy) of Chicago, Illinois, Augustin Dantes, Jr. (Edlena) of Warner Robins, Georgia, Thecla Dantes of Atlanta, Georgia, Edmund Dantes of St. Lucia, West Indies, and a very devoted niece/daughter Michelle McDonald of Savannah, Georgia; eight grandchildren: Christion, Zaiah, Laquan, Augustin III, Ellison, Edmund, Corinne, and Essiah.  She also leaves to cherish her memory her siblings: Cora, Jimmy (Angela), Willie, Curtis (Annette), Lewis (Brenda), Sandra (Barney), Theresa (James), and Veleeta.  Her nieces and nephews include Connie, Daryl, Nicole, Sharon, Tony, Treece, Brian, Jamie, Sheena, Jessica, a host of other nieces and nephews, and a very devoted friend of thirty-eight years, Mrs. Gertrude Boyd.

Funeral services for Mr. Michael Lanorris Patterson of Roney Street Americus, Georgia will be held on Monday, January 29, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at Bethel A.M.E Church on River Road in Montezuma, Georgia. Burial will follow at the Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Montezuma.

Mr. Michael Lanorris Patterson was born on April 10, 1963 in Americus, Georgia to the late Betty Cross Patterson and Henry Patterson, Sr. Michael was a graduate of D.F. Douglas High School in Montezuma, Georgia. He was employed at Davidson Textron and also worked at Southern Frozen Foods for several years. He was preceded in death by a brother Dedrick Bernard Patterson and two uncles: Connie Mack Cross and Mathew Cross. Michael passed away peacefully on Monday, January 22, 2018 at his home.

He is survived by his father, Henry Patterson Sr.; his siblings:Henry Keith Patterson Jr., Melody Patterson, Tina Patterson Tatum, Jena Patterson (Rickey) Thornton and Donna (Andre) Patterson; nieces and nephews: Magan Hinton, Kevis Hinton, Terrance Patterson, Broderick Daniels, China Daniels, Zolandria Tatum, Camisha Thornton, Tabrisha Thornton, Jaylen Thornton, Corderal Thornton, Chelsea Thomas, Gyasi Lockhart, Dakota Williams and Ashlie Wilbon; devoted Friends:Terita Schofield, Elizabeth Simpson and Cornell Lewis; his Godmother, Eloise Moore. Several other relatives and friends also survive.

Ms. Mary Lou Dudley

Funeral service for Mrs. Mary Lue Dudley of Americus, Georgia will be held on Saturday, January 27, 2018 at 3:00 P.M. in the Chapel of West’s Mortuary in Americus, Georgia. Burial will follow at Mt. Salem Baptist Church Cemetery.

Mary Lue Mann Dudley was born on November 9, 1939 in Americus, Georgia to Hosey & Evelyn Ware Mann. She was the youngest of four children.  At the age of 20, she and her husband, James Henry Dudley and their three small children relocated to Hartford CT., where she bore five more children. Mary worked as an Insurance Underwriter for the Covenant Ins. Group for over 15yrs.  She later became a Home Care Aide/Companion to an author with Cerebral Palsy until her retirement in 2011.  In 2015 she decided to move back to her hometown of Americus, GA., where she lived her remaining days with her daughter Evelyn.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her sister, Willie Mae Davis and her brother, Wheatley Mann. Mary passed away peacefully on Monday, January 22, 2018 at her home.

She is survived by her eight children James H. Dudley Jr. Jerry “Sofa” Dudley, Earl G. Dudley, Roderick E. Dudley, and Raymond (Gwendolyn) Dudley, all of Hartford CT. Evelyn K. Dudley, Russell W. Dudley and Sharon L. Dudley all of Georgia.  Her sister, Maude Eva Inez Stephens  of Passaic NJ., 22 Grandchildren, 14 Great Grandchildren, 3 sister-in-laws and a host of nieces, nephews and beloved friends.

Mrs. Joyce Renee Patterson

Funeral services for Mrs. Joyce Renee Patterson of Montezuma, Georgia will be held on Saturday, January 27, 2018 at 2:00 in the Chapel of West’s Mortuary in Americus, Georgia with Rev Troy Fripp officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 2:00 at the funeral home. Burial will follow at the Ebenezer Baptist Church Cemetery in Ellaville, Georgia.

Mrs. Joyce Renee Patterson was born on November 10, 1981 in Americus, Georgia to Audrey L. Taylor and Roy Yarbrough. She was employed as a bartender. On July 23, 2013 she married Avian Patterson. She was preceded in death by an uncle, Richard Taylor. Joyce passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 21, 2018 at the Phoebe-Sumter Medical Center in Americus, Georgia.

She leaves to cherish her memories, her husband, Avian Patterson; three children: DaShaun A. Jones, MaaLiyah A. Patterson and Jayla Catalina-Skai Patterson; seven siblings: Kenyatta Sims, Angela King, Jerry Shane Jordan, Michael Price, Susan Pittman, Ronnie Hall and Tonya Barrett; her parents: Audrey (Rickey Felker) Taylor and Roy (Donna Bailey) Yarbrough; her grandparents: Roy Yarbrough, Juanita Yarbrough, Leon Taylor and Doretta Taylor; mother & father-in-law, Patricia & Jerome Jackson; aunts & uncles: Elaine Ray, Diane Fowler, Peggy Barfield, Vera Williamson, Jerry Taylor and Joyce Fountain; sister-in-law, Nadis Jackson-Baker (Marcel); brothers-in-law: Jason Patterson, Keithon Patterson (Melissa) and Anthony Jackson (Kandice). Funeral services for Mr. Robert Lee Sims of Americus, Georgia will be held on Saturday, January 20, 2018 at 11:00 A.M. at the Plains House of God on Hudson Street in Plains, Georgia with Elder Ronald Johnson officiating. Burial will follow at the Bethlehem Baptist Church Cemetery.

Mr. Robert Lee Sims was born January 1, 1958 in Sumter County, Georgia to the late Curtis Edwards and the late Mary Gladys Stewart Sims. He was the tenth of fifteen siblings. He was educated in the Public Schools of Sumter County. Robert was employed for many years at Sheffield Hardware Company and Railway Freight.

Robert transitioned on Monday, January 15, 2018 at his residence in Americus, Georgia.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his five siblings: Charlie Sims, Annie Ruth Harvey, Catherine Poole, Georgia Lee Mitchell and Deborah Ann Sims.

He leaves to mourn his passing his devoted wife of 5 years, Ashley Sims of Americus, Georgia;  two devoted daughters: Evelyn (Isiah) Harris, Florence, New Jersey and Valeria (Tyrese) Bouldin of Trenton, New Jersey; three step-children: Tatum Baker, Lamont Baker and Allen Milligen all of Americus, Georgia; six grandchildren: Naxire Sims, Adam Harris, Hassan Bouldin, Stanazia Bouldin, Isiah Harris Jr., Izasiah Harris, all of New Jersey; three sisters: Minnie Lee Davis, Martha Seay and Ernestine Rogers all of Americus, Georgia; three brothers: Bobby L. Sims, Harold Sims, Sr., all of Americus, Georgia and McArthur Edwards of Portland Oregon; one devoted aunt, Martha Edwards of Smithville, Georgia; two devoted uncles: Sammy Stewart of Miami, Florida and Lynwood Stewart of Americus, Georgia. Several other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services for Mrs. Josie Mae Monts Bridges of Americus, Georgia will be held on Friday, January 12, 2018 at 11:00 A.M. at the Old Antioch Baptist Church with Rev. George F. Monts officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.

Josie Monts Bridges was born on March 4, 1954 to the late Edward and Emma Monts of Plains, GA. She was married to Franklin Bridges and this union was blessed with two boys. She was employed for several years as a Cab Driver and also as a custodian at Southland Academy. Josie died peacefully on Saturday January 6, 2018 at the Magnolia Manor Nursing Home in Americus, Georgia.

She leaves to mourn her passing her husband and life companion of 47 years, Mr. Franklin Bridges of Americus, GA; two sons: Earl (Marie) Monts of Jacksonville, FL; Eric (Cassandra) Monts Sr. of Americus, GA; one brother Edward (Linda) Monts of Plains, GA; three sisters: Oveda (Robert) Jackson of Americus, GA, Mae (Eugene) Dawson of Americus, GA and Earnestine (Albert) Durham of Americus, GA; six grandchildren: Antwan Davis of Mount Holly, NJ, Christopher Monts of East Orange, NJ, Erica Monts, Eric Monts, Evan Monts and Elijah Monts all of Americus,  GA; a devoted cousin Mattie Mae Tommie, a devoted friend Annie Ruth Mathis, several brothers and sisters-in-laws, and a host of nieces and nephews also survive.

Graveside service for Mrs. Willa Collie will be held on Saturday, January 27, 2018 at 12:00 noon at the Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church Cemetery in Smithville, Georgia.

Mrs. Willa Collie was born in Perry Georgia on November 17, 1944 to the late Mrs.  Magnolia and Jimmie Lee Benefield. She was educated in the Lee County School System. Willa was called home to be with the Lord Jan. 6, 2018 in Port St. Lucie Florida.

She leaves to morn her passing one son, Mr. Anthony Collie, Port St. Lucie; three sisters: Cora Benefield, Port St. Lucie, Ossie Lockett and Mary Henderson of Leesburg, Georgia; four brothers: Louis Benefield, Albany Georgia, Jerome Taylor, Americus, Georgia, Bobby Taylor and Thomas Taylor Smithville, Georgia; one brother-in-law, Charles Henderson; four nieces, three nephews and several other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services for Mrs. Tonia Alexa Seay-Josephina will be held on Saturday, January 13, 2018 at 11:00 A.M. at the Friendship Baptist Church with Rev. Gerald Harris officiating. Burial will follow at the Mountain Creek A.M.E. Church Cemetery.

Tonia Alexa Seay-Josephina was born on September 26,  1971 in Americus, GA. Tonia gave her life to Christ at an early age and joined Mountain Creek A.M.E. Church where she remained faithful and dedicated even after she no longer resided in Americus. As a young girl, she traveled around the states and across the continent with her military parents, which included living in Germany for three years where she fluently learned to speak the German language. She attended Killeen High School in Killeen, Texas. She later attended DeVry University and GA State University. She worked for Ultimate Medical Academy as a Medical Coding Instructor for many years. Tonia had a passion for teaching. Through quality teaching, she was committed to providing her students with opportunities to develop the knowledge, understanding, and skills necessary for successful employment.

Tonia is preceded in death by the late Eddie Jerome Seay, Bural and Lizzie Pearl Wade, Leaston and Elnora Westbrook Cooper, Cassandra Lichelle Wade and Torrance Wade Cooper. Tonia died on Saturday January 6, 2018 at Southern Regional Medical Center in Atlanta, GA.

Tonia leaves precious memories to her loving parents Retired Army Sgt. Tony Sr. & Dr. Amanda Wade Cooper, Americus, GA: her four children: Tierra Maddox, Atlanta, GA; Dejairus Walton, Columbus, GA; Jazzy Seay and Mikyla Amanda Josephina, Atlanta, GA; her siblings: Tony Jr. (Latoya) Columbus, GA; Terrill (Shakema), Byron, GA; Dexter (Keisha), Americus, GA; Oran Seay, New Jersey, and Shay (Donald) Wright Atlanta, GA; three precious grandchildren: Briceson, Brayden and Kaleb Walton; she will always have a special place in the hearts of her aunts and uncles: A devoted aunt & uncle Retired Army Sgt. Funeral services for Lee Morris “Lee Lee” Miller of Montezuma, Georgia will be held Saturday, January 13, 2018 at 1:00 at Zion Grove Baptist Church, Montezuma, Georgia with Reverend Coley Clark, Jr. officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery.

Lee Morris Miller was born to the late Marvin C. Miller and Dollie Mae Mangram Miller in Cook County, Illinois on January 21, 1961. He was educated in the Macon County public school system and was employed at Southern Frozen Foods for a number of years. Lee was married to Ms. Patricia Lockett and to this union two lovely daughters were born.

“Lee Lee” had a kind spirit and a contagious smile. He was a good neighbor who was always willing to lend a helping hand. Lee passed away on Thursday, January 4, 2018 at his residence. He will be truly missed by his neighbors and friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three siblings: Barbara Jean Miller, Darrell Miller and Marvin Miller.

Precious memories of his life will always remain with his loving family which includes his daughters: Sabrina Miller and Jasmine Miller of Fort Valley, Georgia; three grandchildren: Daniel Stripling, Danaysia Stripling and Zamari Hill; his companion, Lillie Mae Green; his siblings: Roy Miller, Morris Miller, Denise Miller, Cynthia Green and Sandra Green; devoted nieces and nephews; Jasmine Miller, Jashaya Miller and Martin Green; his aunt, Mozell Denise Mangram; a host of other relatives and friends including devoted friends: Ernestine Chatfield, Vanessa Fudge, Peggy Fudge, Ronnie Stafford, Lazenksy Oliver, Derek Kaigler, Melinda Green, Jermaine Jackson and James Fudge.
