The Graveside Service for Mrs. Norma Perkins Jackson of Rochester, MI will be held on Saturday, September 10, 2022 at 12:00 noon at Brown Chapel Baptist Church. Mrs. Norma Perkins Jackson was born on January 1, 1936, in Montezuma, Georgia to the late Norman Perkins Sr. and Bessie Sneed Perkins. Norma acquired her education in the public schools of Macon County. She completed high school at the Historic Flint River Farm School and attended Beautician school in Atlanta, Georgia. At an early age, she accepted Jesus Christ as her Savior and became a member of Brown Chapel Baptist Church where she was a devout member until moving to Hartford, Connecticut. While in Hartford she met and married Frederick Jackson on November 4, 1967.
After many years of working in the manufacturing industry in and around Hartford, Norma moved to Michigan to help raise her grandchildren. She had a zeal for life and loved doing activities with her daughter, son-in-law, and grandchildren that brought her joy. She traveled around the world five times, lived in Jakarta, Indonesia for four years, visited Beijing China, Paris France, London England, Amsterdam Netherlands, Singapore, Phuket Thailand, Tokyo Japan, Maui Hawaii and the Bahamas via a Disney Cruise. Norma also loved cooking, reading, and listening to all kinds of music from Opera to Jazz to Motown Soul.
Norma was a devoted wife during her marriage, a caring mother, grandmother and godmother, loving sister, proud aunt, and kind great-aunt. She was well loved by her friends. On Sunday, August 28, 2022, surrounded by family, she transitioned to be with the Lord. She was preceded in death by five siblings: Bessie Perkins Leary, Carrie Perkins Palmer, Edith Perkins Davis, Ruby Sullins and Norman Perkins, Jr.
Mrs. Norma Perkins Jackson leaves to cherish her loving memory: her daughter, Janet (John) Taylor; grandchildren: Jordan Elizabeth Taylor and John Norman Taylor; godson, Steve Sullins; six siblings: Lillian Perkins Butler, Decatur, Georgia, Claude Perkins, College Park Georgia, Lena Perkins Johnson, Montezuma Georgia, Richard Perkins, Montezuma Georgia, Ernest Perkins (Sharon), Atlanta, Georgia, and Joseph Perkins, Montezuma, Georgia; a host of beloved nieces and nephews, including special and devoted nieces Meredith and Jackie Palmer, devoted nephew Bruce Palmer; cousins, other relatives and friends.
