The Graveside Service for Emmitt C. Mathis, Jr. of Houston, Texas will be conducted Wednesday, June 17, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. at New Hope Baptist Church Cemetery, GA Hwy 26E, Montezuma, Georgia.

Emmitt C. Mathis, Jr. was born to the late Emmitt C. Mathis, Sr. and Mildred B. Mathis Carter on February 6, 1957 in Montezuma, Georgia. At an early age, he joined Bethel African Methodist Episcopal Church. Emmitt was a 1976 graduate of Macon County High School. Emmitt enjoyed sports, especially the Dallas Cowboys. During his young adult years, he coached the Montezuma A’s and began working for the Macon County Meat Processing Company.

On July 13, 1979, Emmitt Mathis, Jr. married the love of his life, Wanda Faye Story. Their union was blessed with two beautiful children. In 1988, Emmitt and Wanda moved to Houston, Texas where he worked five years for Grocery Supply. He finished his career with twenty-one years of dedicated service at Dr. Pepper Bottling Company in Houston, Texas.

Emmitt departed this life on Sunday, June 7, 2020. He is preceded in death by both parents, Emmitt C. Mathis, Sr. and Mildred B. Mathis Carter, sister, Ynestra Lynn Russell, and brothers-in-law, James Williams, Wayne English, Jackie Story and Billy Story.

He leaves to cherish his memories, his beloved wife of forty-one years, Wanda Faye Mathis; two children: Charmain Benard (Ronnie) of Grand Prairie, Texas and Marques Mathis (Tawanna) of Houston, Texas; two bonus children: Dwayne Harvey and Shannon Rivers (Taylor, Jalen and Jordan) of Houston, Texas; three sisters: Katreena Arnold (Clarence) of Chesterfield, Virginia, Rhonda Williams of Portsmouth, Virginia and Sharon English of Montezuma, Georgia; sisters-in law and brothers-in-law: Marshell Canady (Jeffrey), Richard Story (Gloria Jean), Walter Ben Story, Jr., James Green, Burnell Story and Pauline Story of Montezuma, Georgia and Sonny Sneed of Akron, Ohio; a host of uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, family and friends
