A private service for Mr. Lonzia Golphin will be held on Friday, April 10, 2020 at 10:00 a.m. CDC guidelines allow only 10 people including ministers and funeral staff to attend all services. This will be strictly enforced by local Law Enforcement.

Because of concerns over the Coronavirus, visitors will be allowed to view Mr. Golphin through our walk up window. We ask that you please practice social distancing for your safety and the safety of others.

Lonzia Golphin was born March 4, 1956 to the late Henry Smith Golphin and Lillian Wilcher Golphin. Lonzia was raised in Ellaville, Georgia and graduated from John Lewis High School in 1975.  Shortly after graduating, he eagerly joined the United States Coast Guard where he was able to explore and live in many exotic areas of the world. After 20 years of service, Lonzia retired in beautiful Americus, Georgia, where he continued working for the Sumter County Correctional Institute. His desire for higher education inspired him to complete a program of study in Criminal Justice in 2008. Lonzia was a member of Friendship Baptist Church, where he actively participated with the Men’s Ministry Program and Youth Mentorship Program.

Lonzia absolutely loved people and never met a stranger. Though retired, he rarely stayed in one place. Visiting family and friends was one of his many favorite past times; finding a pond for fishing and listening to reggae while cooking was another. That’s how he shared his love.

Lonzia passed away on Monday, March 30, 2020. He was preceded in death by his sister, Gloria Varner Golphin and brother-in-law, Charles Varner.

Lonzia leaves to cherish his memories a loving wife, Helen Thomas Golphin; five children: Miska Golphin-Phelps (Hiawatha), Gloria Simmons Compton (Tim), Lonnika Golphin, Devonya King and Jarvis Williams; seven grandchildren; four siblings: Willie Golphin (Elma), Janace Golphin Davis (Donnie), Reverend Freddie Golphin and James E. Golphin; a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Lonzia will be greatly missed by many!
