The funeral service for Mr. Eugene Goodin of Smithville, Georgia will be held on Tuesday, January 14, 2020 at 11:00 A.M. at Green Grove Baptist Church in Smithville, Georgia. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Mr. Eugene Goodin, known to many as “Gene, “Chief”, “Man”, or “Godfather”, was born in Sumter County, Georgia to the parentage of the late Mr. Willie B. Gooden and the late Mrs. Mae Bertha Sims Gooden. At an early age, he joined Bethlehem Baptist Church in Plains, Georgia.

Eugene was educated in the Falls School System of Sumter County, until he decided to work for the family business selling ice and pulp wood. He learned how to work and fix on cars and decided to open up his own business, where he continued his passion for fixing on vehicles and tending to his collard greens. For many years, he was the owner and operator of Goodins' Phillips 66 and Goodins' Garage, until his health failed. He loved playing checkers, raking his daughters' yards, picking up pecans, telling jokes and motorcycles. In 1962, he was united in holy matrimony to Jeanette Lewis Goodin. They were blessed with three children.

On January 5, 2020, at home with his family, he quietly transitioned to his heavenly home to be with the Lord. He was preceded in death by his wife of fifty-seven years Mrs. Jeanette Lewis Goodin, son Stanley Goodin, only grandson Jay Goodin, sister Ozzie Bell Terry, and nephew Carlton Cooper.

He leaves to cherish his legacy of memories in the lives of his two devoted daughters: Theresa (Ricky) Myrick and Chatriala "Vonda" Goodin (Willie), both of Smithville, Georgia; two sons: Kelvin Bowens of Tacoma, Washington and Justin Bowens of Tampa, Florida; two granddaughters: Shalnica (Nicholas) French and LaVona "Chantall" Goodin; two great granddaughters: Eiliyah Brown and Jailah French all of Smithville, Georgia; a brother, Willie (Millicent) Gooden of Springfield, Virginia; a sister, Minnie Cooper of Americus, Georgia; two brothers-in-law: Robert Lee Lewis of Atlanta, Georgia and Randolph Lewis of Smithville, Georgia; a sister-in-law, Linda (Charlie) Thomas of Smithville, Georgia; a caring niece, Veronica Terry-Arline of Americus, Georgia; a devoted cousin, Clyde Tullis of Americus, Georgia; family pets: Tiny and Max; a multitude of caring nieces, nephews, cousins, and sorrowing friends.
