Funeral services for Mr. Aaron Brooks Reece of Americus, Georgia will be held on Saturday, May 19, 2012 at 11:00 A.M. at the Friendship Baptist Church on Cotton Ave in Americus, Georgia with Rev. George Edge officiating. Burial will follow on Monday, May 21, 2012 at the Andersonville National Cemetery.

Aaron B. Reece, Sr.was born on September 23, 1949 to the late Winthrop Reece, Sr. and Hattie Brooks Reece in Brooklyn, New York. He received his formal education through the New York City Public School System.  While still in his formative years, Aaron joined Trinity Baptist Church and embraced ideologies that influenced him into adulthood. During the Vietnam War, Aaron had a strong conviction to serve his country and enlisted in the United States Marine Corps.  He later received an honorable discharge. After returning home, Aaron was still compelled to “protect and serve” and accepted a position as a Police Officer with the New York City Housing Police Department. While on duty, he met “Liz” and within four years, the two decided to pledge their love through marriage. After retirement, Aaron relocated the family to Atlanta, Georgia where they resided for several years until moving to Americus, Georgia in 2008.

Aaron, a go-getter, found himself bored with retirement and again sought out opportunities to ensure the safety of others.  He worked for the DeKalb County Correctional Facility and later the Sumter County Law Enforcement Center until the time came that he needed to focus on his own well-being and that of his family.

In 2010, Aaron was diagnosed with lung cancer.  His physicians predicted that he had three months to live.  They were wrong.  God granted Aaron two more years to live, love, and to be loved.  He also had the opportunity to restore his relationship with God.

Aaron departed this life on Sunday, May 13, 2012 with his wife and best friend at his side. Aaron was preceded in death by his parents Hattie and Winthrop Reece, Sr. and his sister, Sharon V. Leake.  He leaves to cherish his memory, his loving wife, Elizabeth; six beloved children: Aaron Reece, Jr., Debra Ingram, Lance, Patrick, Domineque and Peter Reece; four cherished grandchildren: Briyana, Anita, and Emanuel Ingram, and Laina Lopez; devoted brothers: Winthrop Reece, Jr. (Caryl-Ann) of Louisa, VA, and Tyrone B. Reece, Sr. of Vermont; treasured sisters: Joyce Reece Thomas of Charlotte, NC and Starr Reece King (Amos) of Greensboro, NC; caring in-laws: mother-in-law, Rose Pope; brothers-in-law: Alphonso, Alexander and Malcolm Pope; sisters-in-law: Danielle Harry, Linda and Odetta Pope and Deborah Reece; special sons: Norbert Ingram, Robert Francis, Antravious McCoy and Troy Smith; special daughters: Zymedria Nash and Alicia Perkins; several other relatives and friends.
